Happy Birthday to Angelababy, who just turned 28 on February 28. The beautiful actress from General and I has enjoyed many happy news in recent years. We last published a profile on Angelababy in 2015 and it's time for an update.

Chinese model, singer, and actress Angelababy is a rising international star. Here are 8 interesting things about Angelababy. We'll start with the question of why she is called Angelababy.

1. Angelababy is her actor name, and her real Chinese name is Yang Ying in Mandarin Chinese, or Yeung Wing in Cantonese.

As she explained in a 2012 interview, "My English name is Angela, but some of my primary school classmates found that too long to say. And I had some baby fat then, so they started calling me 'baby,' which is what I was called at primary and secondary school. When I started modeling, I needed a name to distinguish myself, but also one that was easy to remember, so I combined the two names and that's how I became Angelababy."

2. She has a multi-ethnic heritage. Her paternal grandmother was German, making her father half-Chinese and half-German. Her mother is Chinese. Angela was born in Shanghai on February 28, 1989 and moved to Hong Kong when she was 13. She is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, Shanghainese, and English.

3. She became a model when she was only 14. She explained that it started as a joke. "When I was 14, my classmates sent a snapshot I had taken of myself to an artist management agency as a joke. Kim, who is my manager now, saw it and asked me to come in for casting."

4. Angelababy and top Chinese leading man Huang Xiaoming started dating in 2010. Although their life appears to be full of glittering glamour, Huang Xiao Ming went through a horrific accident in 2012 when he fell from height while filming the martial arts film, The White Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom. Angelababy stood by him during that trying time, although the two only admitted to being "friends."

Huang Xiaoming showed up on Angelababy's birthday in 2014 and confirmed their dating relationship.

5. People have wondered if  Angelababy has had plastic surgery. Her critics point to these photos as proof:

Angelababy said she was wearing braces in photos such as the one on the left. Her boyfriend (now husband) Huang Xiaoming defended her by joking that Angelababy would look like her pre-surgery photo if she didn't have makeup on. He also said that he loves Angelababy for both her beautiful and ugly sides. He emphasized that her most attractive feature is her cute personality.

6. Angelababy and Huang Xiaoming sealed their love by marrying in a surprise registration on May 27, 2015, following by a fairytale wedding in October of the same year.

6. Her career has been doing well too! Angelababy debuted as an actress in China, with a 5-minute cameo, in the movie Trivial Matters in 2007. She continued to take on many new challenges and has achieved praise, such as the Most Popular Actress award for the 2015 movie, Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon, which stars Mark Chao in the lead. Also in 2015, she made her Hollywood film debut in Hitman: Agent 47.

She continued with another Hollywood role in 2016, by playing a Chinese fighter pilot in the science fiction film, Independence Day: Resurgence. 2016 was a very busy year for Angelababy as she also filmed the historical romance drama series, General and I.

7. Perhaps her biggest joy came just on January 17 this year, when Angelababy gave birth to a baby boy, who has been nicknamed "little sponge." The happy news was announced by proud new dad Huang Xiaoming on Weibo with a cute fist-bump photo.

8. Angelababy was pregnant while filming General and I, and she suffered fainting episodes during the filming. She persisted with the grueling shoot during summer, and the historical romance, co-starring Wallace Chung, has become a hit drama for both Chinese and International viewers.

By the way, the leading couple has a happy ending. If you haven't watched General and I, now is the time to start!

Happy Birthday, Angelababy!
