Welcome, Music Majors, to another session of  Tomorrow’s Cantabile. Yoo Jin is stunned by the refusal of his request to switch majors and someone’s crush takes a front seat in today’s class. Join Firnlambe, Cici and I, Wendilynn, as we try to sort out what was adorable and what was just weird.

Wendilynn: Yoo Jin doesn’t look happy at the start of this episode.

Firnlambe: Well can you really blame him?

Wendilynn: Nope, sure can’t. And the reasons for Milch’s refusal seemed even sillier than what we supposed last week.

Firnlambe: Milch is really starting to annoy me . . . He really is.

Cici: I am still under the delusion that Milch is giving Yoo Jin such a hard time for his own good. He probably figures that challenging him is the ONLY way he’s going to get him to learn to work and play well with others.

Wendilynn: You never know with this guy. I was expecting the party with the orchestra, I was not expecting the bathroom scene, though. That was just a tad odd.

Firnlambe: Agreed, though I still laughed a lot.

Cici: That was confusingly pervy...or just a case of poor translation. “You are my member” should NOT have been used in that scene.

Wendilynn: Soo Min was adorable in this episode. Our timpanist is proving to be as cute as I was hoping he’d be. I laughed so much as his pranks on Nae il. The water was hilarious, it just kept pouring.

Cici: My personal favorite was the suction arrow to the forehead. I about choked laughing so hard.

Firnlambe: OMG the pranks . . . By FAR the /best/ prank was the swapped out lunch box of love. Nae Il's face was everything I'd hoped it'd be--and Yoo Jin's look of subtle adoration was adorable.

Wendilynn: I took it for more skepticism that she could make edible food then adoration. lol

Firnlambe: I'm referring to the look he gives her as she's leaving . . . But then again, I very well could have interpreted it wrong.

Wendilynn: Oh right, the “she’s not afraid of God in front of food’ line. lol. What was funny though in that scene is that he takes off the euphemistic “kick me” sign from her back and then puts it back on after he asks her if someone is harassing her. LOL!! Nice way to look out for her, you jerk. lol

Firnlambe: He really is having trouble coming to terms with these new slew of emotions that Nae Il brings out of him isn't he?

Wendilynn: Like the couch scene. He smiles at how adorable she is asleep and then calls himself crazy for having that errant thought.

Firnlambe: Yes! He just can't handle it . . . This makes me excited for the typical Kdrama love triangle we're bound to get. He's gonna be so damn adorable when he's jealous.

Wendilynn: there are a few triangles he’s in the middle off. Soo Min, Nae il and Rak are now all going to vie for his attention. When Soo Min admitted to his friend that he liked Yoo Jin it was cute how she was all nonchalant about it.

Firnlambe: True, that was really sweet of her.

Cici: I love how, amidst all the crazy comedy and drama, the writers sneak in little “profundities”. That line about your heart following what you like was spot on.

Wendilynn: This episode can really be split into two parts. There was the adorable first half and then we get the cranky second half.

Firnlambe: It really was cranky that last half wasn’t it? Honestly, as much as Milch annoys me--our dean annoys me more. Mainly because she’s allowing Milch to run rampant. It’s obvious she knows that she should step and and stop him, but she just won’t. //sigh// So frustrating.

Wendilynn: I can’t tell if she is just being a marshmallow or if she has implicit trust in him and what he is trying to do.

Firnlambe: I’m getting the marshmallow vibe from her . . . though “precognitive thoughts” know otherwise, but hey . . . these writers may tweak her character to suit their needs.

Cici: I actually don’t think it’s either--I think she is in love with him and wants to support him in whatever he decides to do.

Wendilynn: Now that’s very possible. Well, now we have the school owner? Head of the school board maybe getting all cranky as well. I don’t get what the deal is. I’ve never understood why having more than one orchestra was a problem in this school of musicians.

Cici: I find all the references to the financial difficulty of having two orchestras confusing. Do they have to pay their students to be in an orchestra? Buy instruments? Pay more for another conductor? They’ve already hired Stresemann, and the conductor for the other orchestra was already on the payroll, so this doesn’t make sense to me. But that's the only justification for eliminating one of the orchestras. Are they trying to get rid of Stresemann if he doesn’t do something to increase their revenues? What am I missing?

Wendilynn: The other conductors have been the student conductors so they aren’t paying them there. And in that regard, more than one orchestra would allow them all to practice. However, if Yoo Jin doesn’t change his approach, he’s going to have everyone hating him and hating music because of it.

Cici: I would think that more than one orchestra would help them retain more students and actually raise revenues from tuition. Yoo Jin driving students away may become a very real problem.

Firnlambe: Agreed, but he’s much too proud to see when he does something wrong.

Wendilynn: All those years of watching conductors and he failed to notice that they were taking care of their people.

Cici: Well, there was just a glimmer of hope on that score--when he recognized that the difference between how the orchestra sounded when Stresemann conducted was because he is a “true maestro”, I thought he might actually put two and two together and figure out it was because of how Stresemann lets his players know he really cares about them. Yoo Jin just can’t bring himself to do that yet.

Firnlambe: I get the feeling that was due to how “mom” raised him . . . there obviously are some issues there. Otherwise he would have been able to see things in a clearer light.

Wendilynn: Yeah, he doesn’t seem to close to either parent does he? Although Mom seems to want to fix that.

Cici: And Yoo Jin is responding like it’s too little, too late.

Wendilynn: Thank goodness we have Nae il to break down, by force, those barriers he’s placed around himself.

Cici: That girl just doesn’t take no for an answer, does she? Which I kind of love about her. No one, not even the “object of her affection”, is going to tell her who she can love or how she can go about it.

Wendilynn: That’s mostly true, but when he’s working hard, she seems to respect that and tries to behave… sort of. lol

Cici: It is hilarious how she can’t keep herself from trying to hug him, though. But yeah, when he’s working, she even tries to breathe quietly. But she’s not about to leave him alone of her own volition.

Wendilynn: I doubt she’s even capable of that. She does seem to be willing to do whatever it takes to support him in whatever he attempts to do. Like their mad dash to deliver lunch.

Cici: That was yet another example of great musical directing. I LOVED it when they started playing The Flight of the Bumblebee as soon as Stresemann pulled out his stopwatch. The frenetic pace of the music matched their frantic actions perfectly. And I have to give kudos to these actors--they are handling the physical comedy superbly.

Firnlambe: Oh gosh, the lunch scene . . . I was rolling on the floor when Rak and Nae Il double teamed that one poor boy and force fed him the sandwich.

Wendilynn: I started to laugh as soon as the music started playing. One of our readers mentioned last week how this had a looney tunes feel to the comedy and I started laughing because it does have that old school comedy feel. Like the Three Stooges or Abbot and Costello or even Laurel and Hardy.(You can find these guys on youtube if you don't know who I'm talking about)

Cici: I’m really loving it--I’m just glad we have 17 more episodes to go before hearing “That’s all, folks!"
