Biography

EXO is a very popular and powerful boy band. They made their debut under SM Entertainment with twelve members, and although three decided to part ways with the agency, the group remains as strong as ever with nine Korean and Chinese members. The Korean sub-group EXO-K was created to mainly promote in South Korea, while EXO-M (M standing for Mandarin) was made to appeal to Chinese audience members. Xiumin, Suho, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, and Sehun continue to represent the EXO name.

Following Kai's impressive dance teasers, the group officially debuted with the Korean and Chinese versions of their single "What Is Love" and their iconic MAMA EP in 2012.

Their first full-length album XOXO hit stores in June 2013 and was repackaged in August. It raked in 300,000 pre-orders and topped the Billboard World Album Chart one week after its release. The project became Korea's best-selling album in 12 years when it sold over a million copies in 2013.

Although they continued to release EPs like Miracles In December and Overdose, members Kris, Luhan, and Tao filed lawsuits against SM Entertainment in 2014 and 2015 to end their contracts for a variety of reasons.

The group has been part of six tours, including two headlining tours. They have won several awards during their short career, including World Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, Mnet Asian Music Awards, and iF Design Awards.

In 2015, the members starred in a short web series titled EXO Next Door and released the hit album Exodus. In two months, Exodus sold more than one million copies when they repackaged it with the new single "Love Me Right." The two albums had the largest sales volume in the shortest time for any K-pop artist.
