Padma Lakshmi was the first Indian model in history to have a career in Paris, Milan, and New York. Her high-profile job propelled her to appear in several productions, including the role of Madhuvanthi in the 2006 BBC movie Sharpe's Challenge. The British action series is based on a trio of Sharpe novels by author Bernard Cornwell.

In honor of her DramaFever debut, I decided to list just a few of Lakshmi's standout productions.

1. Top Chef

She is the host and executive producer of the popular Bravo reality competition series. Top Chef has been running for 12 seasons and shows no signs of slowing down. In the series, chefs compete against one another, and their dishes are judged by a panel of food and wine experts.

2. 30 Rock

During the fourth season of the hit NBC comedy series, Lakshmi guest starred as herself in the episode titled "The Problem Solvers." She entertains the idea of replacing Tina Fey's character in a pilot for her sketch. She only appeared in one episode, but almost 6 million people tuned in to see her.

3. Star Trek: Enterprise

In season 2 of the science fiction TV program, she became the role of Kaitaama, who was the heir to the throne of Krios. She appeared in the "Precious Cargo" episode. The entire series was the prequel to Star Trek, and it focused on the early years of Starfleet before the two major wars.

4. Royal Pains

This USA network medical drama is about a former ER doctor (actor Mark Feuerstein) who moves to the Hamptons and becomes a "doctor for hire" for the rich and famous. He eventually gets recruited to treat the underprivileged. Last summer, Lakshmi guest starred as herself in "A Bridge Not Quite Far Enough" episode. A little over 2 million people tuned in to see her special episode in season 6.

5. Glitter

Mariah Carey's 2001 romantic drama film may not have been a box office hit, but it was one of Lakshmi's earlier productions, setting her up for eventual star status. She portrayed supporting character Sylk in the film about a young singer getting discovered by a DJ and shooting to superstardom.

Will you be watching the model-turned-actress and producer in Sharpe's Challenge?
