7 Reasons the 2016 Chicago SHINee fan meeting was a dream come true
On Sunday, May 8, 2016 SHINee finally met Chicago ShaWols at the Rosemont Theatre in Rosemont, Illinois. Even though their first official US fan meeting was held in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, fans came from far and wide to spend some quality time with their beloved idols from overseas. Some drove hours, some flew in from other States, and one ShaWol even came from China! The elated audience screamed their hearts out for the band that has brought them so much joy for almost eight years. It was a long time coming, but it was worth the wait. While my fellow Midwestern ShaWols patiently wait for the I Am stars to return again, let's revisit seven precious moments that made the event a dream come true.
1. The skinship was amazing!
When SHINee played charades with twenty lucky fans on stage, they definitely delivered in the skinship department! The members shook hands, high-fived and hugged their team members. Jonghyun personally bowed and shook hands with each member of his team before their game. Minho high-fived, shook hands, and eventually hugged each member of his team when they finished their game. Taemin gave a group hug to his winning team.
2. Their performances blew the audience away!
Chicago ShaWols couldn't help but scream at the top of their lungs during SHINee's stunning performances of "Everybody," "Sherlock," "Replay," "Lucifer," and "View." Their execution of the choreography was simply flawless. Fans sang the majority of the lyrics to "Hello" during their seated performance.
3. SHINee chose cute English names.
Taemin was so adorable when he said he wanted his English name to be "Francis," while Minho made the audience erupt in laughter by his choice of "Brad" (in honor of his favorite actor Brad Pitt.). Jonghyun was willing to accept the "Sexiee" nickname American fans had given him. Of course, Onew and Key's names were already in English.
4. The band's response to the fan videos.
SHINee was so touched by the outpouring of love from the pre-submitted fan videos that they couldn't stop smiling, and even shed a tear or two.
5. Onew and Minho's unforgettable aegyo.
The two idols turned up the charm when they were asked to do aeygo to make up with their pretend girlfriends. Onew mimed delightful facial expressions and sweet kisses with his imaginary lady. Minho pretended Onew was his girlfriend and won over the crowd with his winsome show.
6. One lucky fan caught an autographed SHINee fan meeting t-shirt.
After the SubKulture Entertainment MC threw the treasured shirt into the crowd, one person went home an extremely happy K-pop fan.
7. ShaWols age 7 to 70 thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
ShaWols of all ages came to support the guys. Parents brought along their little ones, and one lovely lady, who was 70 years young, actually became one of the lucky 20 who played charades with the group on stage.
If SHINee decided to hold a fan meeting tour across the United States, which US city would you want them to see them in next?
