Korean dramas are filled with romantic scenes filmed under beautifully blossoming cherry trees. With the Yeouido Spring Flower Festival currently underway just outside Korea's National Assembly, it's no wonder that dramas like Sly and Single Again take advantage of the beautiful blooms to set the mood for blossoming love. For those of us who love the fragile blossoms but aren't fortunate enough to live near a major cherry blossom festival, here are a few easy ideas for throwing a cherry blossom-themed party for you and your friends!

Cherry blossoms, called sakura due to their cultural importance in Japan, often represent the delicacy and fragility of life. From Tokyo to Washington, D.C. (or even this cherry tree from space!), the cherry blossom is the quintessential spring flower. This week marks the end of the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C., a tradition that has lasted for over a hundred years, ever since Japan sent 3,000 cherry trees to the United States as a gift in 1912.

Decorations

1. Toilet roll cherry blossom wall art

As someone without a crafty bone in her body, I like the idea of simple, beautiful crafts. Toilet paper rolls + paint? Count me in!

2. Cherry blossom lighted centerpiece

If you aren't afraid of the glue gun, these cherry blossom centerpieces are a knockout.

3. Cherry blossom soda bottle painting

Another simple, yet beautiful tribute to the cherry blossom.

Food

4. Cherry blossom cookies

Of course, delicious (easy) delicacies should be central to your party. These yoghurt-based cookies are a beautiful place to begin--without having to shape individual fondant cherry blossoms by hand.

5. Konnyaku with sakura blossoms

For a more authentic Japanese experience, you could try making this jelly-like food with actual pickled cherry blossoms.

6. Cherry blossom strawberry cheesecake

For a less literal interpretation, you can capture the fresh feel of spring with a strawberry cheesecake.

7. Cherry blossom Kit Kats

Good luck getting your hands on these limited-edition Kit Kats, but wouldn't they be the perfect celebratory treat?

Activities

8. Popcorn cherry blossom tree

Borrow an idea from the National Cherry Blossom Festival by having the kids make their own cherry trees with popcorn and glitter.

9. Read cherry blossom legends

While Japan doesn't have an official myth surrounding the cherry blossom, there are various stories that involve the flowers, including a chapter from The Tale of Genji entitled "Festival of the Cherry Blossoms."

10. Watch cherry blossom scenes in Asian dramas!

Lie to Me, A Gentleman's Dignity, Prosecutor Princess, and Sly and Single Again are just a few of the many dramas that include a stroll under the cherry blossoms. If you can't go there, bring the blossoms to you!
