Jinyoung is a singer and leader of the group B1A4. In addition to singing, he composes music for his group, and other idols like I.O.I and Oh My Girl. Not only is he a talented musician, but actor as well. Watch him portray Kim Yoon Sung the prince’s childhood friend turned competition in the historical Moonlight Drawn By Clouds.
2. Lovely Love Lie (March 20) – Joy (Red Velvet)
Joy makes a lot of people fall for her as a member of Red Velvet. Soon, she can be seen doing the same in the new drama Lovely Love Lie where she makes the boy (Lee Hyun Woo) she falls in love with at first sight, fall in love with her voice at first note.
Park Hyung Sik may have gotten his start in the entertainment industry as a member of ZE:A, but, save for the occasional singing of a drama OST, it’s looking like he may leave his idol days behind him. The group’s contract expired with Star Empire, as of January, and while not officially announced, it’s lead many to the conclusion that the group has disbanded. His acting career has flourished with roles in Heirs and Nine: Nine Time Travels. Currently, he is starring in the fresh and witty rom-com Strong Woman Do Bong Soon as Ahn Min Hyuk, the CEO of AinSoft. Hilarity ensues when he hires petite, and seemingly weak, Do Bong Soon as his bodyguard.
In addition to giving viewers lots of tears, Scarlet Heart: Ryeo also boasted a cast filled with talented singers. The leading female character who time travels back into the Goryeo Dynasty, Hae Soo, is played by IU, who is credited in the drama by her real name, Lee Ji Eun. EXO’s BaekHyun plays the spirited tenth prince, Wang Eun. Girls’ Generation SeoHyun uses her real life dance skills to artfully portray princess Woo Hee. Last, but not least, the show includes solo artist Z. Hera who plays Park Soon Duk, a lady who is greatly skilled in fighting and, as fate or K-dramaland would have it, in love with the not-so-skilled but playful tenth prince.
Girls' Genration SeoHyun
Yook Sung Jae can melt hearts with his voice and his cute and comedic acting in titles like School 2015 or, most recently, Goblin. The actor-idol portrays third generation conglomerate heir, Yoo Duk Hwa, to wonderful and surprising results.
Chanyeol’s character stats in Missing 9 isn’t too big of a departure from his real life. In the show, he acts as Lee Yeol, the youngest member of the fictional 3-member idol group Dreamers. The character’s name sounds similar to his real name and work description is comparable to his real day job as a rapper, singer, and composer from the popular group EXO.
Yoona has had a fruitful entertainment career both as an actress and member of Girls’ Generation. Like many acting-idols, she faces harsher acting criticism due to her K-pop roots. But starting from episode one of The K2, she’ll change your mind. As Go Anna, the character was a clear departure from her previous roles as she portrayed the pitiful and vengeful presidential-candidates daughter.
While many people are familiar with Seo’s acting career from his work in popular dramas such as Answer Me 1997 and The Master’s Sun, he actually made his entertainment debut in 2009 when he won the talent show program Superstar K. He possesses reverse charm both in music and acting. Take his most recent music video “BeBe” for example where he smolders, then watch his aegyo-filled portrayal of the conglomerate heir who loses his memory Kang Ji Sung/Louis in Shopping King Louis.
Hoya is a triple-threat on stage, slaying in vocals, rap and dance, as part of 7-member group Infinite. On-screen, he’s showing versatility as an actor. In 2015, he played a filial younger brother who commits illegal activities in Mask. Now, he can be watched acting as Jang Kang Ho in Radiant Office. In the drama, he plays a man who has an outstanding resume and family background, but due to his panic disorder, he keeps failing interviews which prevents him from obtaining a job.
My Secret Romance (April 17) – Song Ji Eun (Secret)
Song Ji Eun has a lot of secrets, but it’s not what you may think. She’s a member of K-pop girl group Secret and is starring in the upcoming K-drama My Secret Romance. She is cool and collective on stage as a pop star, but expect her to show a different side in the new drama as Lee Yoo Mi. In the show, she has a one-night stand with a man named Jin Wook (Sung Hoon) and happens to meet him again three years later when she meets him at the company where she works as a nutritionist. Awkward hilarity and love is bound to ensue!
