10 Korean stars with impeccable “manner hands”
Korea often uses English words in their own language, creating some unique and interesting phrases. You may have heard of "Manner Legs" before, but today we are going to talk about another one of my favorites: "Manner Hands"!
"Manner hands" refers to the proper and courteous placement of a person's hands out of respect for someone else. In most cases in Korea, this refers to a male celebrity not touching the shoulder or arm of the female that they are posing with. While this "hover hand," as it is often called in Western countries, usually has a more negative connotation, in Korea showing "manner hands" is received with great praise from both the media and the netizen community.
Check out some of these hilarious "manner hand" poses below!
1. Yoo Jae Suk
Ever the courteous man, Yoo Jae Suk used his manner hands while taking a photo with a fan. Just another reason why all of Korea loves him!
2. Kim Hee Chul
Super Junior's Heechul can be seen here posing with actress Shim Eun Kyung. I'm sure she appreciated the gesture!
3. Ji Sung
Ji Sung's manner hands are a bit more unique from the rest of this list. During his most recent drama Kill Me, Heal Me, Ji Sung received a lot of praise for using courteous gestures like protecting the head of Hwang Jung Eun's character when she got into a car.
He claims that his manner hands actually started back when be began dating his now wife Lee Bo Young. "It happened when I was trying to score points with my wife," he explained. "It’s what I did because I didn’t want [her] head to hit the car; I guess you could say it just worked out."
I hope we can see more of Ji Sung and his wonderful manner hands soon!
4. Amber from f(x)
While posing with members of Girls' Generation, Amber was seen using a polite manner hand. Watch the video below to see the whole story!
5. Lee Seung Gi
During the press conference for Shinning Inheritance, Lee Seung Gi was quite the gentleman! Don't they look cute?
6. Super Junior's Yesung
Yesung is seen here posting with BoA. He may be using manner hands, but these two look like they have a great friendship!
Siwon used his manner hands here in an especially cool way — resting his hand on the back of the booth! I didn't expect anything less from this suave gentleman!
Changmin is using half a manner hand here by resting only his finger tips on his partner, actress Lee Yeon Hee.
While filming an episode of Running Man, Kim Jong Kook was very kind and made sure not to use his hands while giving a piggyback ride. Then again, given his impressive muscles, this was probably an easy feat for him!
This wonderful shot came from the press conference for his movie Commitment. He's so sweet with his younger co-star Kim Yoo Jung!
*Bonus* The "manner hands" piggyback ride!
Notice how none of the guys in these photos actually hold onto the legs of the girls? That's because they are using their manner hands! It's seen as much more polite in Korea to keep your hands in a fist or by your side rather than to rest your hands on the rider's legs.
I don't know about you, but I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for this whenever the classic piggyback ride comes up in Dramaland!
