Is nature making you emotional and you know it is not just the beauty of it? Then you may have Goblin syndrome. Don’t worry, you are not the only one!

Goblin: The Lonely and Great God has changed the way fans look at everyday objects, and deeply affected the way they look at nature and the bounties it bears, beyond simply being reminded of the characters and their relationships with one another. One of the drama’s enchanting aspects is the way nature is weaved into the story line. Certain weather, flora and fauna have caused viewers to perceive their own life and the environment around them in a new way. Here are 10 natural things Goblin fans will forever experience differently – grab a cup of tea, and see if you agree!

Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers.

1. Buckwheat flowers

The first time Ji Eun Tak (Kim Go Eun) unknowingly summoned Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) after blowing out the candles on her birthday cake, she asked him to give her the flowers in his hands. “But what is the meaning of these buckwheat flowers?” she asked. “Lovers,” he replied. Thus the formal start of their relationship, and a new classic K-drama scene was born.

2. Rain

After Kim Shin turned into ashes and died, the deity erased the memories of those who loved him as mercy. As Eun Tak lived without the memory of her love, whenever it rained, she would cry for - what she believed was - no apparent reason. But as we all know, when it rains, our lonely Goblin is sad.

3. Cherry blossoms

Why are cherry blossoms blooming when it’s winter outside? Because Kim Shin is happily in love!

4. Tea

The Grim Reaper in Goblin gave mercy to those who lost their life in the form of tea. “Drink, it will make you forget about this life,” Lee Dong Wook’s character would say as he offered the warm drink to the souls he escorted. Some drink it, some don’t. But it does make you think, would you drink it?

5. Maple leaf

According to Eun Tak, “If you catch a falling leaf, you and the person who was walking with you will fall in love.” Kim Shin caught the leaf and the rest was history! Now, if you try this and it becomes true, be sure to let us know!

6. Green onions

Kim Shin and Wang Yeo’s hilarious recreation of their iconic model strut in a tunnel with bags of green onions in hand will be a fond memory for many viewers, and a great set up for parodies to come.

7. Fire

Fire was a strongly romanticized element in the series. When Eun Tak blew out candles and lighters, Kim Shin would be summoned. But, as we found out in episode 13, he dies as he turns into ashes.

8. Snow

Kim Shin wanted to end his life before the first snowfall in an effort to not spoil it for Eun Tak. When he took her to the buckwheat field to “make him pretty” by taking out the sword, she gave him a contract. “The contractor must grant one wish for the contractee on the first snowfall of the season, every year,” she wrote. “That’s because the contractor will be waiting for the contractee.” Almost immediately following is the first snowfall. She attempts to pull out the sword but fails, which leads to their first kiss.

9. Napa cabbage

When Eun Tak turned nine, grandma Samshin, played by Lee El, gave the little girl a napa cabbage as a birthday present. It’s an odd gift, but fitting from the deity who disguises herself as an old vegetable seller.

10. Butterfly

Butterfly was included in the previous related article, but the insect is worth noting again as it is a well-loved symbol of evolution and change. In Goblin, butterflies take on a much higher power than normal.
