10 reasons to get pumped for Girls’ Generation at KCON 2014
As you know, Girls’ Generation (SNSD) was announced as part of KCON 2014’s line up back in May. They will be performing as part of the MCountdown! concerts that are happening during the convention. But what you may not know is that these talented ladies are not just singers and dancers; many of them have starred in K-dramas we love as well! So, here’s why you should plan now to go see Girls’ Generation at KCON 2014 with us!
Leader Taeyeon is usually known for her amazing vocals, but did you know she also has ninja-like reflexes? While going off stage during the end of their “Girls & Peace” concert last year in Jakarta, Taeyeon was almost hit in the head by a plushie, however she flawlessly caught it and threw it back into the crowd. You can watch the video below!
Yu Ri may be a vocalist in SNSD, but she’s also an actress! She appeared in Attack on the Pin-Up Boys in 2007, and then took on a lead role in 2012’s Fashion King opposite Yoo Ah In. She also played Jung Eun, another lead role, in the 2013 film No Breathing starring Seo In Guk and Lee Jong Suk.
Yoon Ah is known as the face of SNSD, but she’s also one of our favorite actresses here at DramaFever. She has been in seven dramas so far in her career, including Cinderella Man (2007), Love Rain (2012), and The Primer Minister & I (2013), which showcased her growing talent. She was so good at showing a range of emotion as Da Jung, but she is also so funny! Here is one of my favorite moments from the Prime Minister & I:
As the maknae of the group, Seo Hyun is known for her love of sweet potatoes, but she’s also multi-talented! She has been featured on three drama OSTs, provided the voice for Despicable Me’s Edith for Korea, and she took on her first drama in the role of Han Yoo Rim in 2013’s Passionate Love.
A native of California, Tiffany will be returning home when she comes to KCON! By default, she’ll be excited, which means we should be too. As a lead vocalist in the group, it’s only fitting that she’s been featured on seven drama OSTs including shows like All About My Romance, To The Beautiful You, and Love Rain.
Saying Hyoyeon loves to dance is an understatement. She has received training from top choreographers in the business and she worked with Janet Jackson and BoA before her debut. She’s also incredibly funny and loves to tell stories, which you can find all over the internet, like this video:
7. Sooyoung -
Modeling, singing, dancing, acting, like most of the group, Soo Young does it all. Last year, she took on her first lead role in Dating Agency: Cyrano, opposite Lee Jong Hyuk, where she was an overachieving matchmaker and hopeless romantic.
Sunny has found a home in film and musical theater in addition to her drama OST work. She is also considered the master of aegyo among the Girls’ Generation members. Here is one of her best “Gwiyomi” moments:
Also a native of California, Jessica has been said to be the sleepy head of the group by fellow members. She fits into the trifecta of talent as well, taking to acting through a supporting role in 2012’s drama Wild Romance and on the theatre stage as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde in 2009.
10. Their music
If the girls themselves weren’t enough reason, the music Girls’ Generation puts out is fantastic. From beautiful ballads to catchy dance songs, SNSD has something for everyone... Their latest single “Mr. Mr.” is garnering lots of attention, including being named on TIME Magazine’s list of 25 Best Songs of 2014! Check it out below:
Many of the K-pop groups that come to KCON will also be part of artist engagements where the groups will interact with their fans. Last year, this included viewing group interviews as well as hi-touch and fan sign opportunities.
Are you planning on attending KCON 2014? Are you looking forward to seeing the girls in person? What's your favorite Girls' Generation song?
