Ever since Love Me If You Dare's debut in China, fans have been raving about the suspenseful thriller and its amazing cast. Here are some interesting things that you may not have known about the binge-worthy, award-winning drama and its hot leading men Wallace Huo, Wang Kai, and more. Scroll down to find out.

1. Love Me If You Dare is based on author Ding Mo's novel, 他来了,请闭眼, which literally means "He is here, please close your eyes."

Ding Mo (丁墨) has published over a dozen novels, including When a Snail Falls in Love, which was also adapted into a popular drama series. Did you know Ding Mo is a female writer? It's worth noting because her name doesn't clearly denote her gender. Her name, Mo (墨), literally means "ink."

An excellent novel still needs a great scriptwriter to adapt it for the screen. Love Me If You Dare is scripted by Hai Yan, the famous writer who wrote the novel and script for the acclaimed historical drama Nirvana in Fire. Hai Yan is also female.

2. Wallace Huo won the Most Popular Actor and Most Marketable Actor awards for Love Me If You Dare at the 2016 China Quality Television Drama. But did you know Wallace initially turned down the role?

When the producer Hou Hongliang and director Zhang Kaizhou started the project, they immediately felt that Wallace Hou was the best suitable actor, especially with his natural inner shyness, to play the expert criminologist. They asked Wallace to take on the role, but Wallace refused. Later, when the script was ready, Wallace like it so much that he pushed off his other commitments to make room for Love Me If You Dare.

Many fans have credited Love Me If You Dare as the drama that made them fall in love with Wallace Huo. Aren't we lucky that he changed his mind on the role?

3. Ma Sichun, aka Sandra Ma, enters the scene as the leading lady. She was a rising young actress in 2015, but Love Me If You Dare's extreme popularity really raised her fame. She got more significant roles and would have a very fruitful year in 2016, such as winning the Best Actress award for the film Soulmate in Taiwan's prestigious Golden Horse Awards.

4. Wang Kai is now one of the hottest leading men in China. When he was filming Love Me If You Dare, he was just starting his rising arc after he had completed Nirvana in Fire, where he played a neglected prince who unexpectedly won the battle for the throne.

He then went on to play, in 2016, the lead detective in When a Snail Falls in Love, which was directed by Zhang Kaizhou, the same director for Love Me If You Dare. Wang Kai was really busy in 2016 as he also had a major role in modern romance Ode to Joy, which became so popular that a sequel, Ode to Joy 2, was filmed this year.

5. Love Me If You Dare's thrilling plot involves a suspenseful confrontation between an expert criminal psychologist and a psychotic criminal. Did you know Wallace Huo had to lose significant weight for his role as Bo Jin Yan (aka Simon)? He continued to monitor his weight to stay thin during the filming. It was quite ironic that Sandra Ma later revealed that Wallace really loved watching cooking shows and would eat her snacks.

BONUS: The drama teased the viewers about the connections between the production team, Wallace Huo, and Wang Kai in episode 1.

When Jian Yao, played by Ma Sichun, was waiting for her interview, she looked at the bookshelves and picked out a book.

The books were actually, from left to right, "Battle of Changsha," "All Quiet in Peking" (2 volumes), "Ode to Joy" (3 volumes), and "When A Snail Fall in Love." These books have all been adapted into dramas. Director Zhang previously worked with Wallace Hou in the drama Battle of Changsha, and Wang Kai has starred in all the dramas based on the last three books.

Guess which book she picked?

You're right if you answered Ode to Joy

Love Me If You Dare's unique combination of criminal psychology, deductive investigation, and romantic entanglements made it a breakthrough concept among Chinese dramas. No wonder it won the award for Innovative Themed Drama of the Year at the 2016 China Quality Television Drama. At the height of its broadcast, it received more than 1.2 billion views in China.
