If you watch K-dramas, you're probably familiar with brooding shower scenes, where male leads pine over their love while showing off their abs. Shower scenes are pretty typical in dramas, but sometimes writers try to think outside of the box in their attempts at fan service. They aren't fooling anyone! Here are five hilarious excuses K-drama writers have used to get their leading men shirtless:

1. Naked corpse (example: Big)

Hong sister 1: This morgue scene is missing something...

Hong sister 2: Oh, I know! We could add a shirtless Gong Yoo!

Hong sister 1: Genius!

Let's be honest. It's a little creepy to ogle a recent corpse.

2. Allergies (examples: Sly and Single Again, Full House Take 2)

How could we believe the severity of his allergies if we couldn't see all of the hives?

3. Changing clothes in a hurry (example: You Are All Surrounded)

Hurry! Hurry! There's no time to wait for those cameras to leave!

4. Exercising (example: When a Man Loves)

Apparently, nothing screams "revenge" like shirtless ab crunches. My guess is that the costume department was running low on funding, so they just decided to cut clothing as often as they could. There are three shirtless scenes in episode 1 alone. How frugal of them!

5. Sore muscles (examples: Answer Me 1994; the top image from You Are All Surrounded)

The obvious purpose of this scene is to illustrate that Chilbongie h̶a̶s̶ ̶a̶ ̶g̶r̶e̶a̶t̶ ̶b̶o̶d̶y̶ is a very dedicated baseball player.

Watch a beautiful young woman make her singing dreams come true in the adorable romantic comedy Trot Lovers

6. Stabbing (example: Heartless City)

When he flexes, it hurts less.

7. Ironing clothing (example: Oh! My Lady)

I kind of feel like the writers for this drama started off brainstorming a list of excuses for Choi Siwon to take his shirt off and then wrote a drama around them. "In this episode, we need to show him getting a massage. Go!"
