7 K-dramas to introduce you to actor-idol group 5urprise
The K-pop group 5urprise, hailed as the first full actor-idol group to actually train in acting before their debut, just started the second season of their fun web series After School: Lucky or Not. Aside from the web series, many of the group members have also appeared in other dramas. Here are 7 shows to spark your 5urprise obsession:
1. After School: Lucky or Not Seasons 1 and 2
The first season of this series marked the debut of group members Yoo Il, Seo Kang Joon, Gong Myung, Lee Tae Hwan, and Kang Tae Oh. The series follows a group of high school students who form the "Pick-A-Mission Club," where they must undertake a new bold and fantastical mission each day. Season one was a fan favorite, and season two premiered this week. Sadly, Seo Kang Joon was busy with other projects and couldn't join the second season, but the rest of the gang is back at a new school!
Seo Kang Joon had his breakout role as the second male lead in this romantic comedy. Noonas beware of this pretty face!
Kang Joon is also one of the original flower boys on the variety show Roommate, where viewers get to see his personality come through. One of my all-time favorite moments is when he dressed as his superhero alter-ego, Kang Dash Man.
Kang Joon also had a smaller part in this suspenseful series as Choi Soo Hyuk, Han Kyul's bandmate and crush with a troubled home life.
Lest you think Kang Joon is the only one doing any acting, we also have Lee Tae Hwan, who is having his breakout moment as we speak. He started with a role as one of Seo In Guk's best friends on King of High School earlier this year, but he has his first big role as the adorable, puppy-like second male lead on Pride and Prejudice. Choi Jin Hyuk is pretty formidable romantic competition, but Tae Hwan and his one cute little dimple are holding their own just fine as an investigator in the prosecutor's office.
6. Miss Korea
In case you were wondering who played Madame Ma's deadbeat son in this series, it was none other than Kang Tae Oh! He didn't appear much, but he played the humorous role well.
Web dramas must suit Gong Myung's tastes because in addition to After School, he also had a role in this web series about a young man living at a boarding house who helps the owner build an infinite power machine. Gong Myung plays the owner's withdrawn teenage son. The mini series stars the fantastic and hilarious Kim Seul Gi, so it's a must-watch!
