8 South Korean celebrities who could take on the villain roles in Disney's Descendants
Let's have some magical fun! Descendants premiered this past weekend on Disney Channel, and it attracted a whopping 11 million viewers in a matter of four days. The fantasy film is about the lives of the descendants of villains and heroes from Disney's classic animated movies. The children of Maleficent, The Evil Queen, Jafar, Cruella De Vil and others came to life in the hottest musical of the summer. Here are the actors who could portray the villains and their kids in a South Korean remake.
1. Mal (daughter of Maleficent) played by Dove Cameron - 4Minutes's HyunA
HyunA is the unofficial K-Pop bad girl who breaks the dance rules. Sometimes her choreography is not approved by TV censorship, but HyunA is loved by her devoted fans for being herself. Fans may want to see the former Wonder Girls member shine in the sinister bad girl role of Mal and dance her way through a South Korean version of the dark family flick.
2. Maleficent played by Kristin Chenoweth - actress Lee Hye Young
Who can deny Lee Hye Young's perfect portrayal of Goo Jun Pyo's evil mom in Boys Over Flowers? That role alone qualifies her to be the deviant Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. I can not think of a more talented actress to pull off such a bone-chilling role.
3. Evie (daughter of The Evil Queen) played by Sofia Carson - Chocolat's Tia
Tia can sing, dance and she pretty much fits the description of the ultimate dream girl next to Yoon Ah. I know fans would like to see a newcomer in the acting world who could try out the role of a girl obsessed with beauty. She is already beautiful; she just needs to put a wicked spin on her role.
4. The Evil Queen played by Kathy Najimy - actress Choi Ji Woo
Choi is lovely, and her other woman role in Temptation makes her the right choice to play The Evil Queen. She was jealous of Cha Seok Hoon and Na Hong Joo's loving marriage in the SBS K-drama. She wanted Cha for herself. That resembles The Evil Queen being so jealous of Snow White that she plotted to get rid of her.
5. Jay (son of Jafar) played by Booboo Stewart - Got7's Jr
I have to admit I have a crush on Stewart. So, it was very hard to find someone to fill his shoes in the film. The only way to replace him was with another celebrity crush! GOT7's Jr is adorable, and he has already stolen hearts around the world. His musical talent and impressive acting skills in My Love Eun Dong, Dream Knight, and Dream High 2, among others, makes him eligible for the part.
6. Jafar played by actor Maz Jobrani - actor Choi Jin Ho
K-drama fans loved to hate Choi's mean daddy character in Heirs. He was the distant and abusive father of Choi Young-do in the 2013 SBS series. He didn't even treat the ladies well either. Since Jafar is supposed to be an all-around bad guy, I think this actor has what it takes to pull off the role.
7. Carlos (son of Cruella De Vil) played by Cameron Boyce - BtoB's Yook Sung Jae
Yook has that bad boy appeal while showing his cute vulnerable side at the same time. His role in School 2015 could have easily prepped him for playing Cruella De Vil's son. Carlos is evil like the rest of his friends, but he is afraid of dogs. Tae Kwang in School 2015 was a daredevil, however, his ultimate fear was being alone. The characters have similarities despite their obvious differences.
8. Cruella De Vil played by actress Wendy Raquel Robinson - actress Bae Doo Na
Bae is such a great actress! I don't think there is a character she can't play. She shined in her roles on Gloria, God Of Study and How To Meet A Perfect Neighbor. The versatile star has even taken on Hollywood with sci-fi films like Cloud Atlas and Jupiter Ascending. Who doesn't want to see her draped in a Datamation coat? I hope it's fake, of course.
That' s my list. If you had the opportunity to cast a South Korean version of Descendants, who would you hire for the roles?
