As avid K-drama watchers know, a script can save or kill a drama. These nine K-drama writers are responsible for so many of the greatest hits, that we cannot thank them enough for their hard work. Let’s take a look!

1. Jung Yoon Jung

Jung Yoo Jung, whose mind gave birth to incredible dramas like Misaeng (Incomplete Life) and Arang and the Magistrate, is back with The Bride of the Water God next week!

2. Bae Yoo Mi

Bae Yoo Mi has been writing hit dramas since the late 1990s. Her more recent works include Sparkling, Beyond the Clouds, Scandal, and I Have a Lover.

3. Song Ji Na

Song Ji Na got her start writing for the radio and children's dramas. In the early 1990s, Song gained popularity through hit dramas Eyes of Dawn (1991) and Sandglass (1994). Since then, she’s written Healer, Faith, The Legend, and more.

4. Kim Eun Sook

Kim Eun Sook, who might actually be the most popular K-drama screenwriter, has written Goblin, Descendants of the Sun, Heirs, Secret Garden, A Gentleman's Dignity, City Hall and Lovers in Paris. Her next drama, Mr. Sunshine, will star actor Lee Byung Hun.

5. No Hee Kyung

No Hee Kyung can tell a tragic love story, as seen in That Winter, the Wind Blows, or a realistic love story of 30-somethings as seen in The World That They Live In. Don’t forget to also check out More Beautiful Than A Flower and Padam Padam.

She has also published essays on love.

6. Kim Eun Hee

Screenwriter Kim Eun Hee has a knack for mystery thrillers like Sign, Ghost, and Three Days.

7. Kang Eun Kyung

Kang Eun Kyung has been writing dramas since 1998. Her dramas tend to specialize in one industry like Hotelier, Baker King Kim Tak Goo, and Doctor Romantic.

8. Kim Soo Hyun

Born in 1943, Kim Soo Hyun is one of the first generation K-drama screenwriters of the 1970s. In the past 40 years, she has written dramas with over 70% national viewing rates. She is known for her casual, everyday-like lines.

Her recent works include Life is Beautiful, A Thousand Days’ Promise, and The Woman Who Married Three Times. Kim has also written novels, essays, movies, and plays.

9 The Hong Sisters

Lastly, Hong Jung Eun and Hong Mi Ran, known better as the Hong sisters, are the big hands in romantic comedies. They’ve written hit dramas like My Girl, Fantasy Couple, You're Beautiful, Greatest Love, The Master’s Sun, Jeju Island Gatsby, and more.
