Takarazuka, the iconic all-female musical revue that just celebrated its 100th anniversary, has announced its upcoming production of Lupin the 3rd.

With the upcoming live action feature film and now with this announcement from Takarazuka, it seems that Lupin the 3rd is on quite a roll. The first ever musical of Lupin will be put on by the Takarazuka Revue. Every cast member of Takarazuka is female, and it's been that way for 100 years. They put on a wide array of shows, from Broadway musicals to adaptations of Japanese folklore and shōjo manga. The leads who stay on top for years become big, national stars.

Takarazuka fans are known for their dedication and almost religious admiration of these stars. Shows are always sold out, and the cast (especially the leads) are treated almost like royalty by the loyal fans. The stars, in turn, dedicate their lives to Takarazuka. Aspiring girls go through a very competitive auditioning process to get accepted, and the rigorous training process to be able to set foot on the historical stage is well-known. Takarazuka is a lifestyle, for fans and performers alike.

Lupin fans are pretty serious about their Lupin, too: you'd better reserve tickets early if you want to see the musical.
