Answer Me 1988 breakout star Ryu Joon Yul lands leading role opposite Hwang Jung Eum in Lucky Romance
Yes, yes, YESSSSSSSSSS! This was the casting I didn't know I needed until it happened. Ryu Joon Yul, who only made his debut last year and somehow managed to win a ton of viewer hearts in Answer Me 1988, is jumping directly into a leading role. He is confirmed to play the male lead opposite Hwang Jung Eum in upcoming romantic comedy Lucky Romance.
Lucky Romance is based on a webtoon of the same name about a woman obsessed with luck. Hwang Jung Eum is confirmed to play Sim Bo Nui, an incredibly superstitious thirtysomething woman who spends all of her time and money hoping to improve her fortune. When a fortune teller informs her that she must sleep with a male virgin born in 1986 or die, she's determined to find a man who fits the bill.
Enter Je Soo Ho (Ryu Joon Yul), Bo Nui's pennypinching landlord who tries to kick her out when she's behind on the rent. He doesn't believe in wasting money on dating, and, as a result, he just so happens to be a virgin born in 1986! As you can imagine, hijinks ensue when Bo Nui decides to seduce her landlord to change her fate.
Anyone who was #TeamJunghwan in Answer Me 1988 already knows that Ryu Joon Yul does gruff and lovable extremely well. It's nice to see him getting a leading role so soon! I mean, just look at this smolder...
Lucky Romance will air on MBC in May, which sets up an interesting situation where these two leads will go head-to-head in ratings against Entertainer with Ji Sung and Hyeri, their respective Kill Me, Heal Me and Answer Me 1988 costars.
