Taiwanese drama Bromance became a huge hit on DramaFever this year, and fans fell in love with stars Baron Chen and Megan Lai in this enchanting rom-com. We are stunned and sad to report that Baron was recently injured in a variety show, and the injury is so serious that Baron has had to call off all his future appearances and acting engagements.

Fans were shocked to see photos of Baron in a wheelchair when he arrived at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on May 24. His right knee was bandaged, and he was holding a pair of crutches. Baron could not walk because of his leg injury.

Baron was in Race the World, a Chinese variety show that puts stars in competing teams in challenging contests. For the show's final episode, taped in Nanjing on May 14, he participated in a free fall from a height of 500 meters (1640 ft.) The protective gear was apparently not properly secured, and Baron was injured when he landed badly on his right knee. Another actor, Tang Xiaotian, was also wounded.

Despite the injury, Baron initially wobbled to finish the recording as you can see in the footage in this brief news report (dressed in blue).

Baron was later (after 7 hours) taken to the hospital where it was diagnosed that his right knee suffered from a torn meniscus and ligament rupture, requiring surgery. He decided to return to Taiwan for the surgery and recuperation, to be near his mother.

Many Chinese viewers and Baron's fans have criticized the variety show for not safeguarding the actors, not taking Baron immediately to the hospital, and not issuing an immediate apology. The incident occurred on May 14, but the show issued an apology on May 25.

For now, Baron is waiting for the bruising and swelling to subside before undergoing knee surgery. A significant period of time is required afterwards to recuperate. He has canceled all engagements, including a popular role in the historical drama, Once Promised, also starring Huang Xiaoming and Victoria Song. Fortunately, he has already filmed a third of required scenes.

We wish you the best, Baron, and hope you'll recover fully soon!
