Not that it was necessary, but when Billboard announced that BTS was being nominated for one of it's categories in the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, it solidified one of Korea's biggest groups as a truly global phenomenon.

Yesterday, Billboard announced all the nominees for the upcoming 2017 Billboard Music Awards, to be held on May 21st at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Held annually, this awards show represents the best of the best in the music business, as voted by fans and also selected using accumulated data regarding sales, streaming, radio play, tours, and social engagements — so the selection process is pretty comprehensive. This year, rounding out the regulars like Drake, Rihanna, The Weeknd, and others, is BTS, who became the first Korean act since PSY to be nominated since  2013, when the "Gangnam Style" singer won for Best Streaming Song. The category BTS is competing in is Top Social Media Artist, and the competition is about as stiff as it gets. Also nominated with the seven boys from Korea are Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Shawn Mendes. If you're mentioned in the same breath as those performers, you are a truly legitimate, big-time, international act.

Remember, fans can start voting for their favorites come May 1st, so mark the date if you want your voices to be heard. And as for the Bangtan Boys . . . good luck and congratulations!
