Han Groo is one of Korea's rising young stars, and her most recent drama offer may catapult her right to the top! The 22-year-old actress has been offered the leading role in MBC's upcoming fusion sageuk vampire series Scholar Who Walks the Night.

Scholar Who Walks the Night is based on a web comic, and it will be set in the Joseon Era. Han Groo (if she accepts the role) would play the daughter of a nobleman. When her father is falsely accused of being a traitor, she is forced to dress as a man and sell books in order to survive. In the process, she meets a handsome scholar, who just so happens to be a vampire. The villain of the series would be another vampire who lives in the palace.

So, in other words, it's a historical/vampire/cross-dressing drama. It almost sounds like a cross between the historical fantasy of Arang and the Magistrate and the cross-dressing bookishness of Sunkyunkwan Scandal, both of which I loved.

Add Han Groo to the mix, and MBC might just have a hit on their hands! She's young, but her acting history has shown that she can cover a broad spectrum of roles, from the gritty action of Girl K to the winning comedy of last summer's Marriage Not Dating.

So who will play this mysterious vampire scholar? Park Hae Jin was initially in talks for the role, but he has since declined. Might we suggest someone from this list of K-drama actors who should play vampires? (*cough* T.O.P *cough*)

Scholar Who Walks the Night will be written by Jang Hyun Joo, who worked on Coffee Prince (and obviously knows who to write some good cross-dressing), and it will be directed by Lee Sung Joon, who was the secondary PD on Empress Ki and Moon That Embraces the Sun. The series is planned for a July premiere, following the Hong Sisters drama Jeju Island Gatsby.
