Now this is some casting news I didn't expect. Actress Song Hye Gyo is in talks for the female lead in Descendants of the Sun, most likely opposite Song Joong Ki in his post-military comeback role.

Coming from writer Kim Eun Sook, who penned hits like Secret GardenA Gentleman's Dignity, and Heirs, the KBS series Descendants of the Sun is already one of the most anticipated shows of the year. Song Joong Ki has pre-confirmed his participation in the series, but nothing is set in stone until he returns from military service in May. So far, Song Hye Gyo has met with producers to discuss the role, but she has not decided anything yet.

The drama is about a UN peacekeeping lead commander (Song Joong Ki) and his relationship with a doctor from Doctors Without Borders. In the beginning they dislike each other, but they grow to love each other while working side by side in dangerous situations to save lives in conflict zones. Reportedly, the drama will be filmed 80% in overseas locations, and, unlike most dramas, it will be fully pre-produced before release.

What do you think of a potential Song-Song pairing? I always forget that Song Hye Gyo is only 33 because she has been acting for so long, but she's really only 4 years older than the babyfaced Song Joong Ki, who turns 30 in September. Both of them are impressive actors, so it could work well for a dramatic series like this.

Descendants of the Sun was originally scheduled for May, but with Song Joong Ki's possible involvement, it has been pushed back to July or October instead.
