Ten years after he came out with cult classic Old Boy, director Chan Wook Park is finally making his debut in Hollywood with his latest film, Stoker. The film will hold its world-wide premiere in Korea on February 28th. His Hollywood debut boasts an impressive cast AND has Ridley Scott (Black Hawk Down, Prometheus) on board as the producer. Not to mention the star-studded cast!
Chan Wook Park's Old Boy has a Count of Monte Cristo-esque plot, following a man who has been kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years. He is released under strict instructions to find his captor in five days. The movie is a cult fave that has won the admiration of Japanese video game designers as well who have approached the director.
Stoker, on the other hand, is a dark domestic thriller that stars Mia Wasikowska as a woman who tragically lost her father (Dermot Mulroney) in a car accident. She finds her world turned upside down when her Uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode) comes to live with her emotionally unstable mother, played by Nicole Kidman! Little is known about Uncle Charlie, whose existence is revealed only after the passing of his brother.
Will Park Chan Wook's new movie live up to the legacy of his critically acclaimed movie "Old Boy"? Are you excited to see it?
