Drama Club: Blood Episode 4 Recap
Ok you crazy daywalkers — when last we left them, Jason was in grave peril after being blinded by a flashlight, and Rita was being her normal, self-centered self. Will things finally start working out between the two of them now that there is character development on the horizon? Join Taleena, Wendilynn, and me as we discuss all the scenes that made you cringe and all the scenes that we're sure made you yell at the screen in pure frustration, in our fourth episode of Blood.
Watch episode 4:
Taleena: So, I had a massive epiphany this episode about Luuvy the PervBot and who he reminded me of. I know this reference is going to date me. Furthermore it will make certain childhood influences transparent to the world. I’m a little ashamed. Here it is:
Hello! Gil Gerard! No, really PervBot is Twiki.
Wendilynn: *snort* I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought of Twiggy. Yes, I know its spelled Twiki, technically, but that’s not how I said it. lol
Taleena: I might as well admit I wanted to be Princess Ardala rather than Wilma Deering. Princess Ardala had rockin’ capes and hats that even G Dragon would covet.
Wendilynn: You’re right, GD could take lessons. lol Speaking of lessons, it seems our Dr. Evil has one he wants to teach our young padawan. Something about reconnecting with his roots or some such nonsense. Didn’t our Dr. Evil just say he wasn’t a monster, but now he wants Ji Sang to remember that he is a monster? How does that even make sense?
Firnlambe: ummmm because he’s delusion and driven crazy that Jason has force powers while he does not . . . duh . . .
Taleena: I think Wendilynn, that Director Doctor Evil McShiny Shoes Wine Box M.D. (I just had to say it all once) wants Ji Sang to buy into the whole “I’m better than you, I’m part of a Master Race” philosophy, the easier to control and suborn him. The whole “I’m a monstrous baddie” is a side issue.
Wendilynn: I wasn’t surprised to see that Mom and Dad were fellow scientists with Dr. Evil. But who is the 4th guy in the picture?
Taleena: Maybe the 4th guy is the reason that Ji Sang’s mom and dad make a break for the Good Ol’ US of A. Not necessarily that he was bad but his death caused the group to split. Maybe he was the first to die when D.D.EMcSSWB - FINE! Dr. Evil - took over the group and created the Hoodie Brigade.
Firnlambe: Wait . . . so Dr. Evil was in the picture? I thought it was just uncle “sick to the point of death” who was in the picture . . . . . waaaait nvm you guys said Ji Sang. He is forever Jason to me so I mixed up who we were talking about--continue lol don't mind me.
Taleena: Uncle--I’m Sure He Has Vampire Induced Cancer--didn’t seem quite so cozy with Dr. Evil this episode. I’m not convinced he really knows anything pertinent.
Wendilynn: That warning shouldn't have needed to be said. Isn't it a given that if they screw up, the Hospital has to do damage control? Why it made Dr. Evil all unhappy is sort of nutty because he has no problems doing “damage control” of his own.
Taleena: Yeah, the whole conversation seemed not terribly necessary to an American (by which I mean ME) used to the litigious nature of my fellow countrymen, BUT makes tons of sense if you need a scene showing yet another division in the edifice of Dr. E’s power structure. Like the Dissent of the Hoodied Group, it shows that as powerful as Dr. E seems, it is a tenuous grasp.
Wendilynn: Tenuous is a start. We have our lady who is assistant director? Is that her job? She is definitely suspicious, and with good reason.
Firnlambe: Suspicious or not, I'm really liking her character for the moment.
Taleena: I think she is head of HR. I really like her trying to plant a spy in the “pharmaceutical” group. I hope that Doc Self Deprecation plays along. Is it just me, or did it seem like they were trying to warm up everyone’s character this episode? Especially Rita. Oh Rita!
Firnlambe: I guess my prediction of more character development by episode 4 was correct. They made Rita a little more bearable, but I just can't come to accept her.
Wendilynn: She was still true to form, but I think when she heard Ji Sang asking his mom not to die, it melted her a little since her own parents died when she was young. She may treat the other doctors as if they are pricks, but she seems to genuinely care about her patients.
Taleena: I agree she cares about her patients, it’s her saving grace (other than her awesome drunken challenges) my heart warmed a tiny bit more when she pulled up her big girl panties and was going to try the transplant herself when Ji Sang and Dr. E were no shows for the surgery.
Wendilynn: What else could she do? That patient couldn’t wait forever even if Dr. Evil was taking his darn sweet time. I really hate that he is willing to play fast and loose with the patients after giving all this lip-service about taking care of them. Just be cold and superior. Don’t act like you care.
Taleena: C’mon you know all those charity patients are there just for Vampire Experimentation Fodder. It’s not just a front. As soon as they said orphan and elderly with no one to care for them by Bad Guy Meter went on high alert. I am just waiting for Mother Superior Awesomeness to repel the Director with her rosary cross. I feel it in my bones.
Firnlambe: Not gonna lie, I was so mad at Jason this episode. I mean, I knew he was going to follow our mystery Vamps but I was really hoping he would show up at the hospital much earlier than Dr. Evil.
Wendilynn: I was sort of hoping he’d be leaning against the wall asking them what took them so long to get there. lol
Taleena: I don’t know, I thought it was kind of funny for them to walk in with their hands ready for gloves and give each other the surprised eyebrows.
Wendilynn: Makes you wonder what Dr. Evil was expecting. Can I just say that I was really impressed with the prayer they said before killing the organ donor? I was really moved by that scene. The reverence of that scene really touched me.
Firnlambe: I was very impressed by that as well. As for Dr. Evil's expectations. I was under the impression that he wanted Jason to give up on his "human" tendencies by ignoring the patient.
Taleena: Kind of changing the topic a bit. I think it is safe to say that Renfield is good. Right? He number crunched on the clear serum (Side Note -Dang I really wanted a silver knife throwing gun!) AND gave Ji Sang those sweet contact lenses.
Wendilynn: Yes, I loved that he made those contacts for him. Very smart move. And I would love to know why Ji Sang is immune to the death serum. I’m very glad that he is, mind you.
Firnlambe: I like the contact plot point as well. AND I'm glad Renfield is good.
Wendilynn: He absolutely needs a dependable ally.
Taleena: Rita? A dependable ally? I think so, eventually. She covered for him.
Wendilynn: No, I was talking about Renfield, but I think Rita will become one eventually. She’s now super curious why a guy with corpse level hypothermia is walking around. She almost got in over her head though. *chuckles*
Firnlambe: Oh for sure... I was impressed Jason didn't do more than just cornering her against the wall.
Wendilynn: I liked the chemistry of that scene. He was totally intimidating her so she would stay away, but you could still pick up on that touch of sizzle. Especially after the PervBot kept repeating that film of her backside at breakfast. lol
Firnlambe: PervBot is quickly becoming the best side character of all time. I won't be surprised if he ends up being Jason's love coach later in the show
Wendilynn: He’s very funny.
Firnlambe: OK, please tell me I wasn't the only one to see a plethora of Twilight similarities while she was "researching" his condition.
Taleena: Well, I couldn’t say Firnlambe having steered clear of all Twilight anything. Emo teen fiction. Okay. Emo Vampire fiction, eh. Emo Teen Vampire fiction? Too much for me!
Wendilynn: I can understand how you would see similarities, but lets be real, you run into an issue, what are you going to do? Go look it up in a book? no, you run to Google. lol Twilight is not exclusive in that. lol
Firnlambe: No, not at all. You're totally right...but you can't say you didn't have those flashbacks if you'd seen/read the books.
Wendilynn: I have read the books and seen the movies, many a time. Love Twilight. I just don’t look for comparisons. I just wish the subtitling had clued us in on what search results she got. If the camera is going to show it, it would help to know what plot points we’re missing out on.
Taleena: That’s a whole section of K dramas I call: “If only I read Korean I’d know what’s going on!”
So, will our two broody vamps be able to push their differences aside and save another poor soul. Can Rita stay away from Jason, or will her curiosity after reading Twilight get the better of her. And just who is that 4th person in Dr. Evil's picture of memories past. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below and we'll see you in episode 5.
