DRAMA CLUB: Doctor Stranger 1-2 (2/2)
Welcome back to the second post of the Doctor Stranger Drama Club. We are totally hooked on this drama and we hope you all are too! Come join in and see what we had to say about the first two episodes. Let's go, go, go!
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: Great. How is everyone enjoying "Doctor Stranger"? Has everyone seen both episodes?
Janice: I just finished episode 2 and wow, I'm hooked already
June: I finished both episodes and it has already given me so many different feels!
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: I can't help but back up what I've mentioned in my previous post, which is that this is a very fast paced show!
Janice: I agree, I am loving the pace of the first 2 episodes so far. I hope it clips along like this.
June: I like how right off the bat, it's action packed! I think it was a really good first episode and a good way to start off a drama!
Janice: Me too! I can't help rooting for Hoon and Jae Hee to not be separated even though that is the inevitable outcome, this early in the drama.
June: I wanted to cry so many times while watching the first 2 episodes!
Janice: Yes, June! When Dr. Park hugged Hoon the morning after Hoon overhears his mom saying he doesn't want him, I teared up!
June: Yes! I was like "NOOOOOOO poor Hoon" ): and what happened with his father at the end of the first episode. My poor heart couldn't handle it!
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: I have to say that I am grateful for the lighter moments when Hoon is his standard obnoxious self.
Janice: There are so many threads to keep track of already.
June: Hoon dancing to "Tell Me" was hilarious!
Janice: Haha, I appreciated the Wondergirls flashback. I think this is why this drama feels so good right now, it knows how to balance the melodrama with comedy.
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: And, is it surprising that once Hoon is in South Korea, he ends up as a delinquent doctor?
Janice: I was just thinking how to categorize it and it kind of has everything: thriller, revenge, melo...
June: Yeah, I was wondering how he ended up as a delinquent doctor in South Korea!
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: Janice, it is exciting to have such a roller coaster of emotions, but I do hope the drama settles down.
Janice: It does feel like a little bit of everything right now but I hope they don't lose the comedy with the drama. It keeps this drama from feeling too heavy which is what I was afraid of before watching.
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: Yes, Janice, and the pacing tends to slooow down as a drama goes on. So, I'm enjoying the brisk pace while it lasts. If this keeps us, it may start feeling a little psychotic.
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: Does everyone find the chemistry between the Hoon and Jae Hee believable, given the short amount of time they had to establish it? Surprisingly, I did.
Janice: YES, I was going to say how much I'm rooting for them already. The scene with the heartbeat, I have to say, TOTALLY got me.
June: I was very surprised with how much chemistry they had! I am so rooting for them. I want them to have a happy ending so bad already, though we'll see how that ends up as the drama goes on.
Janice: The scene with the heartbeat, while hiding, I mean,
Janice: I'm wondering how Hoon will find out about his mother.
June: I was wondering what did end up happening to his mom. Do you all think she was killed?
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: I am confused by the mother's about face. One moment, she's screaming how she doesn't want Hoon, next, she's trying to find him. I don't think she was killed.
Janice: Yeah, and how they'll resolve her harsh words said in the beginning that spurred Dr. Park to bring Hoon to N. Korea in the first place.
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: That bodyguard obviously has a soft spot what with the lolly pop obsession thanks to Hoon.
Janice: Those are some damn good lollipops.
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: I think they want us to think he killed her.
June: True. That bodyguard was kind of awesome with him helping out Hoon.
Janice: I think the Prime Minister thinks the bodyguard probably did away with her.
June: That Prime Minister is so shady!
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: The Prime Minister is just custom made to be hated, isn't he?
June: I think so! lol
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: You can tell that the actor playing the Prime Minister is having fun.
Janice: It's so strange to see the actor (can't remember his name) play such an evil character in the Prime Minister. All the dramas I've seen him in, he's been the good guy so my brain is having a hard time reconciling the two, haha
June: I love seeing actors play such different characters. I feel like because we are so used to seeing them as a type of character, so when it does change up, it's refreshing!
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: Speaking of playing against type, I think this might be the first time Lee Jong Suk is not playing a teenager?
June: That is true!
Janice: I have to confess, this is my first Lee Jong Suk drama. I still have to watch I Hear Your Voice.
June: Oooh! Enjoy! I personally love his dramas!
Janice: What do you guys think will happen in episode 3?
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: I hope Hoon will quickly join the hospital, and we can watch him butt heads with the second leads. It will be a lighter source of conflict.
June: As for episode 3, I wish they would give us a preview! We now have to wait until next week for new episodes! I agree I want to see him interact with the second leads already!
Janice: I can't wait to see how he will be scouted by the hospital.
June: One way I thought of was the doctor that was getting resigned from his spot will recruit him as a part of his team.
Janice: And if it'll be by Han Jae Joon (Park Hae Jin) or the other doctor.
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: Yes, I think they are clearly setting up a rivalry between Hoon and the young doctor. Add North Korea into the mix, and it's excitement all around!
June: So what are you all's parting thoughts on the first two episodes?
Jung-gug-eo Kaenada: There is so much potential in "Doctor Stranger" based on the first two episodes. They have thrown action, melodrama, and comedy into a fast paced story. It will be interesting to see how a change in setting to the more pedestrian environment of a South Korean hospital will change the feel of the show. Please, more opportunities for bad dancing by Hoon.
Janice: The first two episodes were thrilling to watch, full of heart-stopping moments where I sometimes had to press pause to catch my breath. There were sweet moments as well and I can't wait to see how Jae Hee comes back into the story so that I can continue rooting for these two!
June: From beginning of the first episode to the end of the second episode, Doctor Stranger has gotten me hooked. This just made me super excited about recapping this drama. I can't wait to see what they'll bring to the table and I will be rooting for Hoon and Jae Hee.
