DRAMA CLUB: I Hear Your Voice: Episodes 7-8 (2/4)
Welcome back to my portion of the “I Hear Your Voice” drama club review. To be honest, after watching episode eight, all the humor disappeared so I, Powerz, present to you, the dark side of this drama.
This week, I will explore the dark side: character downfalls. The topic is very depressing since almost all major characters in last week’s episodes experience a downfall. What other drama would give their main characters so much trouble, all at once? These characters decide to take matters into their own hands, which led or will lead to their ruin. Who will be left standing?
Eo Choon Shim (Kim Hae Suk)
Rest in peace, Eo Choon Shim. She has permanently fallen. I thought she would leave clues so Hye Sung can find evidence of the killer, but it seems she trusted Hye Sung to stop pursuing Min Joon Gook (Jung Woong In) and be at peace with her death. I don’t understand why the coroner didn’t check to see if she truly had arrhythmia symptoms before she died. Why did Choon-Shim develop a psychic superpower? She foresaw Hye Sung in big trouble and seems to be on target with her dreams. We only need one character in this story with a superpower and that’s Park Soo Ha (Lee Jong Suk).
Jang Hye Sung (Lee Bo Young)
I compare Hye Sung’s evil turn to Anakin Skywalker’s rise to the dark side from the “Star Wars” movies. After Hye Sung’s mother passed away, Hye Sung, like Anakin, had a one-track mind to do whatever it takes to create her version of justice. To use a wrestling term, Hye Sung “turned heel” by consenting to lying and admitting she injured Do Yeon ten years ago in order to collaborate with Seo Do Yeon (Lee Da Hee) and Seo Dae Suk (Jung Dong Hwan). Consequently, she consented to Seo Dae Suk’s plan to falsify evidence and commit Hwang Dal Joong (Kim Byung Ok), a witness with nothing to lose, to perjury. Choon Shim didn’t want Hye Sung to turn into a revengeful person, but Hye Sung easily forgot her mother’s words. Believing the justice system is corrupt, Hye Sung threw away her public defender pin in front of Head Attorney, Shin Sang Duk (Yoon Joo Sang). With boyfriend Cha Kwan Woo (Yoon Sang Hyun) defending her enemy, justice wouldn’t look the same to Hye Sung again. Who will restore her faith in the justice system?
Park Soo Ha
Soo Ha is headed to ruin due to his impulsiveness. Soo Ha beat up Joon Gook while Joon Gook tried to board the bus to prison, but Soo Ha somehow does not get into trouble with the police afterwards. He takes his protector job too seriously and is willing to leave Hye Sung’s side and forego his bright academic future in order to harm Joon Gook himself. Soo Ha also gives Hye Sung a false sense of security from Joon Gook by telling her Joon Gook will not hurt her again. Who will stop Soo Ha and can he be stopped?
Cha Kwan Woo
If Kwan Woo cared for Hye Sung, he should have communicated with her more before dropping a bomb in court by announcing his intention to defend Joon Gook. His levelheaded personality really cost him his relationship with Hye Sung and his unknowing support for the murderer led to his downfall. If Kwan Woo knew Joon Gook’s true history by communicating more with Hye Sung, he wouldn’t make such a disastrous decision to support Joon Gook. Kwan Woo is a powerful opponent for both Hye Sung and Do Yeon.
Seo Do Yeon
I understand Do Yeon has filial qualities, but she should never blindly follow her father’s plan without thinking about the consequences. Seo Do Yeon destroyed her chances in indicting Joon Gook for his crimes when she illegally persuaded inmate Hwang Dal Joong to lie for her. Kwan Woo, in turn, easily exposed Hwang Dal Joong’s lies within minutes in the courtroom. Do Yeon will be scoffed at among prosecutors.
Min Joon Gook
Joon Gook has a sickness for revenge, yet masterfully maintains a clean image in public with a fan base of people vouching for his good character. He fooled me plenty of times, making me wonder if he has changed for the good. His latest murder lands him in the courtroom once again.
Hwang Dal Joong
Dal Joong got greedy and tried to lie in the courtroom to testify against Joon Gook , but Kwan Woo exposed Dal Joong’s intentions so quickly that he had no time to think of an escape route. I still have this feeling that he’s related to Do Yeon and if he is convicted of perjury, Do Yeon will be the one who further ruins his life.
Seo Dae Suk
I can’t quite put a finger on this man. Does he want revenge against Hye Sung at the expense of his daughter’s career? Surely, he wouldn’t give such bad advice that could be quickly countered by Kwan Woo. Maybe he isn’t that smart after all since his plan was a total failure.
Shin Sang Duk (Yoon Joo Sang) and Choi Yoo Chang (Choi Yoo Chang) have been antsy in the office and on edge.
Go Sung Bin (Kim Ga Eun) was heartbroken to find Soo Ha’s bear, which is clear evidence that he likes Hye Sung.
Kim Gong Sook loves to eat and drink. There’s no happier moment than that.
So what do you all think?
