It seems to me the general consensus on this episode is that it's as frustrating as heck, mostly because Xia0 Shu can't make up her mind as to whether she actually likes Zhen as anything other than a friend. This, of course, leaves all of us at home asking one simple question...WHY??? Why, Xiao Shu, can't you make up your mind about Zhou Zhen? great smile (650x365) I have a couple theories on this, the first being that Xiao Shu has simply never thought of Zhen as anything other than a friend. As Laquita said in response to part one of this week's postings, "...all of his [Zhen's] actions thus far have been due to their friendship nothing more nothing less." Since neither Zhen nor Xiao Shu have had any ulterior motives in their time spent together, it's possible that the idea of moving beyond friends with Zhen has genuinely never occurred to her. After all, it's becoming painfully obvious that Xiao Shu is fairly inexperienced when it comes to relationships, despite the fact that she's just come out of a very painful one with Senor Scumbag. awkward morning (650x365) This brings me to my second theory, which is that the pain of her recent breakup is keeping her from developing any deeper feelings for Zhen. As Kdrama Therapy said in her post on this episode, "She [Xiao Shu] had no idea her boyfriend was cheating on her, and she felt like a fool once she found out. Why would she want to even risk something like that again?" She makes a very good point. Why would anyone want to risk losing a heart that was already broken? When looking at Xiao Shu's actions (especially towards the end of this episode) from this perspective, things make a little more sense, especially if Xiao Shu was falling (even if only a little) for Zhen. The very idea of falling for someone who was already taken would be overwhelmingly painful, especially for someone, like Xiao Shu, who's still trying to get over a cheating ex. depressed (650x365) My third theory is that Xiao Shu didn't start liking Zhen as anything but a friend until she thought he was thinking of her as more than a friend first. (Enter the meddling friends.) We've all watched as Xiao Shu and Zhen have been blissfully wandering through their celebration of singleness together. We've sighed and smiled and been carried away by a wave of warm-fuzzies as we've watched the friendship between Xiao Shu and Zhen grow into a wonderfully sweet relationship and then...WHAM! What was once sweet and innocent friendship is suddenly turned into something more by the incredible meddling powers of Jessica, James and Yu Mi. It wasn't until James gave his "how a guy confesses" speech in Episode 5 that Xiao Shu started to wonder about Zhen's feelings; and it was that speech that brought about all of the awkwardness we've had to suffer through since. Of course Jessica and Yu Mi are just as bad as James, with their never-ending supply of sly grins and knowing looks, which are only making things worse for Xiao Shu. Xiao Shu seems to have such a hard time accepting the possibility of Zhen liking her which, really, makes a lot of sense when you stop to consider Xiao Shu has probably suffered a huge blow to her self-esteem since catching her ex cheating. Can you imagine how awful she feels about herself right now? Who wouldn't have a hard time accepting the feelings of someone else when you're having a hard time accepting yourself at the moment? The Meddling Trio...making thins harder for Xiao Shu one grin at a time. So those are my theories. Do you have any of your own? How do you feel about the relationship between Gao Zhe Xuan and Xiao Shu? Does anyone see that going anywhere or are you like Kdrama Therapy and only see them as "two close parallel lines?" What about the relationship between Gao Zhe Xuan and Ying Ying? Kdrama Therapy and I are both hoping something good happens there. Are you? How did you feel about Xiao Shu and Zhou Da Kuan's interaction in this episode? Do you think this first meeting will leave a positive impression of Xiao Shu on Zhou Da Kuan? If it does, will this help Xiao Shu and Zhen's relationship later on? Beyond relationships, do you think Ying Ying will actually become a successful businesswoman or will she stay the spoiled princess? Share your thoughts as we eagerly await Episode 7 and Xiao Shu's response to Zhe Xuan's confession. *grin* More from the LOVE AROUND Drama Club!
