DRAMA CLUB: The Master’s Sun Episodes 9-10 (3/4)
Whew! Vivi checking in here after that whirlwind week of The Master’s Sun. Am I the only one who feels worn out after that crazy roller coaster of drama emotions? Yes? I admit that I may be getting a teeeeeeensy bit too invested in this show.
But can you blame me?
Okay, where do I even begin to talk about this week? How about the fact that they finally kissed? Wheeeeeeeeee! Yay! Oh, wait, except Gong Sil was unconscious. Not only was she roofied, but she was also possessed at the time. I’m not so sure it counts as a first kiss if your soul isn’t present, but maybe my standards are unreasonably high.
Sorry, Joong Won. I'm sure you're used to making the ladies swoon, but maybe not quite this literally.
So then, right after this drugged-up one-sided kiss, we get the fastest fake engagement of all time. Can we all just keep in mind that Joong Won was gone for a week and comes back all set to get hitched? Man, that guy moves fast! Like Rosie, I wasn’t a huge fan of veering off into fake engagement-ville at this point in the drama. Remember how he was “dating” Yi Ryung like two episodes ago? Why not just use her as a plot device if it’s necessary? Do we really need a FIFTH member of this love square/pentagon? Wait, I forgot about dead/not dead Hee Joo, so is this a love hexagon now?
On the one hand, I’m pretty relieved that they got rid of the fake fiancée pretty fast and moved on to more important things, like love declarations (YES! FINALLY!). One the other hand, it kind of feels lazy to include a fiancée if you’re just going to get rid of her at the end of one episode.
To quote Joong Won: (hand wave) "Get lost."
Speaking of which, does anyone get the sense that this isn’t the last we’ve heard of that girl? Who wants to take a bet that he ends up engaged to her for real at some point in the show once family members really start to meddle in the relationship? The obligatory guilt marriage? I may be way off base here, but that’s the only way this fake engagement would make any narrative sense.
In the writers’ defense, that love declaration was pure perfection. “It seems that I’ve fallen in love with you. What are you going to do now?” That’s just about the Joong Won-iest confession possible.
Of course you're going to do whatever you want. Isn't that what's been happening all along?
Now that we got the love declaration, where do you think the show is headed? We still have a long way to go, so I’m a little bit nervous about what will happen next. Like I said, I wouldn’t be surprised to have family obligations get in the way at some point. Joong Won’s dad wasn’t looking too healthy hanging out with his Spanish girlfriend. Is he gonna drop dead and guilt Joong Won into giving up Gong Sil? Is the uncle going to step out of his role as a bumbling fate helper and make a real power play for the company? Is dead/not dead Hee Joo’s twin going to swoop in and cause trouble?
Even though we haven’t heard Gong Sil’s response yet, I just hope that we get to enjoy some adorably awkward love scenes before too much trouble brews in paradise! C’mon, writers! We deserve some cute love before we brace for the storm, right?
P.S. I refuse to talk about Kang Woo this week because I love him so much, but I can’t handle having him chase after Gong Sil for nothing.
