DramaFever Weekly Top 10 for July 6, 2015
Surprise! We have a new winner and it's probably not what you expected. Which show dared take the crown from School 2015? Many new dramas started recently, and DramaFever even added classics including Pride and Prejudice from famous British period dramas right before the start of July 4th weekend. So what is our new Top 10 list of The Most Watched?
Running Man is #1. We have gotten so used to this long-time favorite variety show hovering around the top 5 but never reaching #1 that it's a real surprise when it takes the crown.
I love the happy ending in Jeju Island Gatsby. I don't want to give too much away (check out great kiss scene between the leads), so just know this: If you've been waiting on the sidelines, it's safe to start your binge watch. There's nothing like the joyful experience when we endure the pain and frustration along with the leads to reach the light at the happily ever after ending!
Ha Ji Won and Lee Jin Wook took The Time I Loved You to #9 in its first week. This is a really delightful drama for romance fans, and the Korean remake has injected its own unique flair for hilarious moments. Rising idol and actor L has already shaken noona Ha Ji Won's resolve, what will happen next. (I've watched the original Taiwanese drama, In Time with You, and it'll be interesting to find out how L's role will be defined for the Korean version.)
Mask finally rewarded us with a heroine who's grown a backbone and stretched her claws! Episodes 11 and 12 are fantastic to watch, but you'd need to start from the beginning to fully feel the effect. You can also compare Joo Ji Hoon kissing Soo Ae and kissing Yoon Eun Hye.
In other news:
Tiger Mom starts on Tuesday, July 6. Top-tier Chinese actors Zhao Wei and Tong Da Weii lead the cast. The original Chinese title is actually Tiger Mom and Cat Dad. It's meant to describe the disciplinarian mom versus the gentle dad and how their different styles collide as they raise their daughter. It also should be noted that there was no such phrase as "Tiger Mom" until Asian-American writer Amy Chua wrote her famous book Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother on raising her children. Now this term, Tiger Mom, has been exported back to Asia and just about every Chinese-speaking person is familiar with it. The traditional Chinese term is actually "Tiger Father," describing a father who expects his babies to become tiger cubs.
