Charismatic leading man Ethan Ruan is returning to DramaFever in the new fascinating drama Legend of Fuyao. Many of our viewers became his fans because of Fated to Love You, the popular T-drama that was even remade into a Korean version. What has happened to Ethan since his dramatic rise to fame?

Ethan Ruan has experienced some big ups and downs over the years, but there is no doubt that the handsome leading man is a naturally talented actor with a unique charm and a powerful personality that transcends the screen.

He originally wanted to become a pilot, but was picked as a model when he accompanied a friend for an audition in 2002. He debuted in the drama series Michael's Dance as a dancer in 2004. The following is a rare footage from the segment called Boot Trample. You can tell a young star was on the rise.

After several support roles, he became practically an overnight success in 2008 when he starred in the now romantic classic Fated to Love You, which co-starred Joe Chen (Chen Qiao En).

He was even nicknamed as the "King of Idol Dramas" by Taiwanese entertainment media.

He followed up with My Queen, another successful romantic drama that was also remade into a Korean version, about a younger man falling in love with an older woman (Cheryl Yang) who had given up on love.

He reached a career high with his leading role in Monga, a Taiwanese period movie that portrayed young mobsters, and won Best Actor in the prestigious Golden Horse Award in 2009.

After serving his required military duty from January 2011 to January 2013, Ethan Ruan has taken on mostly cinematic roles. One of them was a bodyguard in the The Assassin, the 2015 award-winning martial arts film that starred internationally famous actress Shu Qi. Another was New York, New York, tracing a couple's passionate but tragic love affair.

Sadly, he and actress Tiffany Hsu, his girlfriend of eight years, broke up in 2015. It's not easy for a star couple to maintain their relationship under the glaring spotlights. We wish them both good luck in their separate new futures.

At 35 now, Ethan continues to attract admirers for his unique charisma and choice in challenging roles. He has also expanded his career into mainland China. He now returns in Legend of Fuyao, a brand new Chinese costume drama that fuses fantasy romance and martial arts into the highly anticipated series that co-stars Yang Mi (Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms).
