Famous J-drama 'Nodame Cantabile' to be remade in Korea
It has been announced that the sensationally popular Japanese drama Nodame Cantabile will be remade in Korea. Group Eight, the Korean production company that has made quite a number of hit K-dramas, such as I'm sorry I love you, Goong, Boys Over Flowers, Playful Kiss, Pretty Man etc, has recently decided to remake Nodame Cantabile in Korea, and they are contacting people to involve.
Nodame Cantabile is a classic music-themed J-drama based on the hit comic book by Tomoko Ninomiya. Begun in 2001, the comic was serialized in a comic magazine and published in 23 books. Over 26 million copies have since sold.
Fuji TV aired this drama from October to December of 2006, starring Ueno Juri as Noda Megumi and Tamaki Hiroshi as Chiaki Shinichi. This drama was also made into an animation series in 2007. The OST and a game based on the drama also gained popularity. There were even two theatrical versions in 2009 and 2010.
Nodame Cantabile was loved by not only Japanese fans, but also by fans in Taiwan and Hong Kong. In Korea, this drama aired through a cable channel and got 2% viewer ratings, which was quite high record as a foreign, cable drama.
There has also been MBC’s K-drama Beethoven Virus, which was based on a similar theme as Nodame Cantabile. Group Eight has plans to air this drama’s Korean remake version this year. They are now casting a writer and main characters.
I remember that I watched this drama and read the comic books when I was in high school. It was super popular in Korea. Maybe it will be another drama like Boys Over Flowers that has many versions on several countries. Through this drama, Ueno Juri and Tamaki Hiroshi became famous and popular among Korean people who like J-dramas. I am excited to hear the news about the cast and writer. Are you?
