Attention please! Yang Yang (Love O2O) is returning with a brand new fantasy martial-arts epic, Martial Universe, that promises a thrilling adventure of a lifetime (or more). The handsome leading man is challenging himself to portray a unique and fascinating character based on a wildly popular novel. Let's get a sneak peak of the exciting new drama that will soon broadcast on DramaFever.

Just as Rome wasn't built in a day, the hero in Martial Universe isn't shaped in a simple transformation. He starts off as a rough-hewn, obstinate young man who lacks a reasonable promise for the future, to say the least. No one in his clan thinks he has a chance to progress in life.

He is Lin Dong, played by Yang Yang, who will go through many trials and tribulations in order to step up in a tumultuous era to become a respected martial arts leader.

For the handsome leading man who often portrays a refined, stylish gentleman with self confidence, be it the role-model IT entrepreneur in Love O2O, or the upstanding Crown Prince Ye Hua in Once Upon a Time (movie version of Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms), the challenge for Yang Yang is to convince the huge and critical fandom of the original novel Wu Dong Qian Kun, written by Tiancan Tudou, that he fits the devoted fans' image of the book's macho hero. The pressure is high. Will he succeed? Along the way, the hero-in-training will also meet and romance two beautiful women. Will he be able to rule both valor and passion?

The early word is very favorable.

As the director tells it, Yang Yang is not only a naturally talented actor, he works incredibly hard and is willing to be pushed and hammered toward perfection. The filming took a year and it was hard work for not just Yang Yang but also the entire production team.

Take a look at two trailers here. (Fan-subbed clips.)

Although the movie's martial arts actions scenes involve a lot of special effects, Yang Yang recounted in an interview about a fight scene with co-star, Fahrenheit singer-actor Wu Chun, where they fought mano-a-mano, in a fierce muscle fight in a muddy trench. Both he and his opponent swallowed some muddy water during the tough filming. He only told it as an anecdotal experience about the filming, and humbly said he learned a lot.

Here's the interview with Yang Yang: (Sorry, it is not English-subbed, but I thought you'd enjoy just looking at our adorable Yang Yang.)

No wonder Martial Universe is the most highly anticipated new drama in China now, and it is coming to DramaFever!

Martial Universe is slated to premier on Tuesday, August 7.
