At the beginning of episode 16 of Flower Boy Ramen Shop, we see Eun-Bi with Dong-Joo who is trying on a wedding dress for her marriage to some guy who's not coach. Both ladies are sort of despondent and Dong-Joo only tries on one dress before choosing it as the one she'll wear. Something tells me she's going to call off the wedding...
Chi-Soo is cuddled up alone in bed, totally tuned out to everything. His father looks in on him and then remarks to his adviser how much Chi-Soo's behavior reminds him of his late wife, Chi-Soo's mother.
Back at the ramen shop, Eun-Bi is awake in the middle of the night and trying to perfect a recipe for broth. She's so detached, she doesn't realize she's been working all night with the lights off. Ba-Ool remarks to the other guys that she reminds him of Eun-Bi's father after his wife, Eun-Bi's mother, passed away.
Next we see an uber sad montage of Eun-Bi making ramen alone but not liking it, cut with Chi-Soo making ramen alone and not liking it, cut with Kang-Hyuk watching Eun-Bi make ramen alone... and not liking it. Everyone is a heart-broken zombie in this episode.
Kang-Hyuk finally has enough of Eun-Bi's wallowing behavior and closes the shop for the day to reveal to everyone the true reason Chi-Soo left Eun-Bi and the ramen shop, to keep it from getting destroyed. Eun-Bi reacts to this as if it were just another fact, like Kang-Hyuk just told her that plants make food from sunlight. "Makes sense," she says. As she gets ready for Dong-Joo's wedding, Kang-Hyuk asks her why she's acting the way she is. Eun-Bi smiles and insists she's fine. Kang-Hyuk mourns the loss of angry, sexy Eun-Bi who NEVER smiled.
On the toilet, Eun-Bi is relieves herself and the toilet gets clogged up. She plunges the crap out of it (literally and figuratively, but mostly literally) and while she's doing it, she reflects on her time with Chi-Soo. She simultaneously unclogs the toilet and her heart. She emerges from the bathroom in a fit of heartache and rage. Kang-Hyuk, Hyun-Woo, Ba-Ool, and So-Yi are all waiting on her to leave for Dong-Joo's wedding. They are startled by her fit, but glad to have the old Eun-Bi back.
So-Yi lets it slip that Chi-Soo is leaving for America that day. Right away, Eun-Bi calls Dong-Joo and tells her she'll be unable to be her bridesmaid at the wedding because she "has to pick a rose." I assume that's a poetic way of saying she's gonna pounce Chi-Soo stop him from going to America.
Well, it turns out So-Yi was lying. She was just trying to start a fire underneath Eun-Bi so that she'd hurry up and tell Chi-Soo how she really feels.
Anyhow, Dong-Joo is inspired by Eun-Bi's courage to fight for love and after Coach gives her his blessing and tells her she made a perfect bride even before her major plastic surgery (I know, where the hell did that come from?) she decides to follow her heart and calls off her wedding to be with Coach. Hooray! One triumph of love down, one to go.
Eun-Bi, plunger in hand, races to Chi-Soo's house with tons of her friends and acquaintances behind her. She tries to catch a cab, but none will take her (I'm pretty sure she'd have better luck if she stopped waving that plunger around, but who am I to judge).
At the Cha Sung estate, there are protestors blocking the entrance. They're protesting the redevelopment which would render many of them homeless. Eun-Bi can't get through, but then someone saves her from the crowd and points her in the direction of a hidden way to get to Chi-Soo's home, and that someone is Kang-Hyuk. OMG you guys! This episode's intense! He really wants her to be happy, even if that means he doesn't get to be with her.
Eun-Bi barges into President Cha's office. She asks him, "If I keep dating Chi-Soo, will you tear down the ramen shop and throw Chi-Soo out without a dime?" He answers, "Yes!" Just then Chi-Soo appears. Eun-Bi grabs him and the two of them run out together. At first, Chi-Soo hesitates, reminding Eun-Bi that the shop will be torn down if he leaves with her. Then Eun-Bi asks him if he can live without seeing her, to which he replies... "no." They kiss, Kang-Hyuk smiles looking at them from afar, and I peed a little.
Back at the ramen shop, the whole gang is back together. They have all gathered together to reveal their recipes to each other (remember when they had to make a ramen dish based on what they knew of eachother all those episodes ago?) Ba-Ool and Hyun-Woo tear up a little bit when revealing their tasty and heartfelt ramen dishes for eachother. Eun-Bi doesn't present a ramen dish because she says that Chi-Soo will never be ramen and she has to accept him as he is. Chi-Soo doesn't prepare a ramen dish either because he says that Eun-Bi is all the ramen he needs. AWWWW! Ba-Ool is on the brink of chewing them both new a**holes because their love is going to shut down the shop and put them all out on the streets when a surprise visitor comes into the shop. It is President Cha's adviser. He hands Chi-Soo some papers to inform him that his father has enlisted him in the army. See you in two years! Can this be for real?
That night, Ba-Ool and Hyun-Woo discuss where they're going to go now that the shop is closing. Ba-Ool is going back to his foster home. Hyun-Woo will try to get into the school dormitory on a scholarship.
Kang-Hyuk tries to sneak out of the shop but Eun-Bi catches him. He has a backpack on. He's leaving for good :( He thanks Eun-Bi for the memories, and for the chance to love, and he tells her he'll think of her anytime he eats or makes ramen. He says he'll be fine, and that he'll pass the time drowning his sorrows with booze and lots of women. They hug, the cry a little, and Kang-Hyuk leaves to make ramen somewhere else.
Eun-Bi finds Chi-Soo asleep under the Christmas tree and covers him with a jacket. It turns out he's not really asleep. Chi-Soo asks if Eun-Bi will visit him, she answers "of course" and then they get into a silly little jealous argument that leads to a tickle fight.
Next, it is Christmas Day. Ba-Ool and Hyun-Woo are working together at a restaurant. Hyun-Woo is accosted by a pretty woman in the bathroom... it looks like love... which means I'm going to have to kill her. Eun-Bi is studying for the exams again to become a teacher when she gets a text message from Chi-Soo telling her to meet him at the train station because he's on break from the army.
We see Dong-Joo kissing Coach, Ba-Ool kissing So-Yi, Hyun-Woo kissing that woman in the bathroom, and finally we see Chi-Soo kiss Eun-Bi and it starts to snow. End of episode. End of season one.
