GET READY! 10 Kdrama Halloween costume ideas
Halloween is just around the corner, and if you haven’t started planning yet, you need to. I’m not joking—you need to stop everything that you’re doing and start making costumes right now. And honestly, what better way to weave your Kdrama obsession into your everyday life than to make it a part of your costume? It can also serve as a great conversation starter for your friends who haven’t joined the world of Kdramas—yet. Maybe some of you have the time to painstakingly sew yourself a period costume from your favorite sageuk, but never fear! Here are ten easy costume ideas to emulate your favorite Kdrama characters.
1.Boys over Flowers
You know how every Halloween party has about 15 lazy people who tossed on a sweater, drew a lightning bolt on their forehead, and called it good? Well, consider this the Harry Potter of Kdrama costumes. Guys just need a suit and a tie to become their favorite member of F4, and girls can use a plaid skirt and some knee-high socks to go as Jan Di. People feeling extra ambitious can toss on a permed wig or an ascot for added effect. The upside? You can reuse the Jan Di costume next year and say you’re Hermoine Granger.
Who wouldn’t want to be as happy-go-lucky as Eun Chan, even if it's just for a day? Well, here’s your chance! All this outfit requires is a white shirt, a vest, and a winning smile. Sadly, Gong Yoo is not included.
Vampires are a Halloween staple, but if you’re tired of vampires of the Twilight or Nosferatu varieties, you can give it a Kdrama twist! A sharp suit and some fangs are all you really need to pull it off, but you could add bright blue contacts and fake blood to go for extra accuracy.
4.Answer Me 1997
If you’re feeling nostalgic for the good ole days, this is your chance to indulge on memory lane! Pick your favorite 90s fashions—high ponytail with a scrunchie, high top sneakers, or overalls—and celebrate your lingering love of H.O.T.
Two words: Matching tracksuits. This is the ultimate couple’s costume. Couple’s rings are for amateurs. Nothing says true love like some sequins.
If you love the idea of wearing a tracksuit but haven’t met your ideal love match yet, you can always round up three of your best friends and go as Lee Gak and his merry men. It’s comfortable, cozy, and a group costume. What’s not to love?
Maybe ramen is the extent of your cooking abilities, but that shouldn’t stop you from being a chef for just one night! With a chef’s hat and a blue, black, or red scarf (depending on your level of cooking confidence), you can attend your Halloween party in style. Make sure you practice shouting “Yes, Chef!” or “You’re FIRED!” before you head out on the town.
8.Flower Boy Next Door
One of the advantages of Halloween is that you can get away with wearing outfits you would never wear in a million years in your normal life. If you’re secretly a—ahem—minimalist when it comes to clothing, you can always go as Enrique Geum. Clothing is optional, but the panda hat is mandatory.
9.The Master’s Sun
Let’s face it: as much as we loved Tae Gong Sil, she wasn’t exactly a fashionista for most of the show. You can probably find a Gong Sil-appropriate outfit at your local thrift store or dump. Toss on a frumpy dress or a poncho, mess up your hair, and you’re set! If you want to make a group costume out of it, you can always surround yourself with an entourage of ghosts.
10.My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho
This one takes a little more preparation than the others, but it’s nothing that a true Kdrama fan can’t handle. If you’re a fan of Shin Min Ah’s character like I am, round up nine white scarves and pin them to your posterior. Don’t have enough scarves for the full effect? Just pretend that you’re a gumiho who lost a few lives!
