We can't think of a better way to learn how to draw a spot-on Pikachu than by watching a video by Pokémon Character Art Director Ken Sugimori. Luckily, that video is very real, my friends.

The art director takes us on the step-by-step journey to creating a perfect Pokémon, and it begins by drawing a proportional oval for the head while leaving space for the ears. The next step is then outlining the location for the eyes and the nose in the right places, followed by drawing in the mouth and cheeks.

Next, you color in the definition of the ears and eyes before stenciling the entire body. The last step is adding in the tail, but we don't want to spoil all the magic for you, so sit back and enjoy the virtuoso cartoonist create his masterpiece. And then make sure to get started on your own Pikachu gem!
