Here's why super fans wait five hours in line to get into the Tokyo Pokémon Cafe
Since opening on January 9 in the trendy Shibuya District of Tokyo, the Pokémon Cafe has been, just as predicted, a giant success, with fans waiting patiently in line for over five hours on any given day just to get their foot in the door.
Personally, I wouldn't wait five hours in line for anything, but then again, I'm not a fan of Pokémon. When a new cafe featuring one of the most popular characters of all time opens up in one of the most hip and popular department stores in the most crowded city in the world, there's really no way around a five hour wait. Whenever I come across these never-ending lines that form for some special occasion, it makes me think that the waiting is half the fun for a lot of the people standing in them. Waiting in line promises you a special experience, and you know that you are going to be a part of something that only a select few get to be a part of. And once you're in, the experience is all yours.
Once inside after five hours and seven floors of waiting, it's Pokémon heaven, making the wait totally worth it for the faithful. The staff all sport Pikachu tails, the food and drinks are all Pokémon themed, there's a special gift shop, and Pikachu DJs and will even sit with you at your table. All of this keeps fans coming back for more, especially since this cafe is scheduled to close at the end of February. For any of you who are planning a trip or are already in Tokyo, its hours are from 11:00 - 10:30, every day of the week, on the 7th floor of Shibuya Parco Part 1 department store.
The line goes all the way out to the street. The cafe is on 7th floor.
Just three more hours..
