How 8 sizzling South Korean stars got started in the entertainment industry
New celebrities seem to magically appear in front of us with every new drama or movie. We have grown to love many of them over the years, and we are still very curious about their humble beginnings or very first projects. I want to reintroduce to you some of those iconic stars with whom you've fallen in love through their latest projects.
Let's meet eight sizzling South Korean fan favorites all over again.
The Secret Message star started out as an underground rapper named Tempo. His childhood friend G-dragon called him when he learned that YG Entertainment was creating a new boy band. After being rejected by CEO Yang Hyun Suk because he wasn't skinny enough to be considered an idol, he auditioned again six months later.44 pounds lighter, Choi Seung Hyun was finally signed to the popular entertainment company and joined BIGBANG. Se7en even gave him his stage name T.O.P
2. So Ji Sub
The Oh My Venus actor was a shy boy growing up, so he gave modeling a chance because he wanted to pose alongside the late hip hop star Kim Sung Jae. After being chosen to be the STORM jeans model in the mid-90s, he debuted as an actor in the 1996 MBC sitcom Three Guys and Three Girls. Most K-drama fans remember seeing him for the very first time in the 1997 SBS series Model.
3. Go Kyung Pyo
The Konkuk University film major made his debut in Jungle Fish 2 in the role of Bong Il Tae. He began to gain recognition as one of the original members from the first three seasons of Saturday Night Live Korea. Of course, he is now one of the main leads of Answer Me 1988.
The Lee Hyun Woo lookalike can thank Kim Ha Neul for helping him get recognized in the industry. If he hadn't portrayed her younger brother Dong Hyu in the 2011 film Blind, you may not be seeing him in the third installment of the Answer Me series.
5. Lee Hye Ri
The Seoul School of Performing Arts student got her start in the entertainment industry as a member of Girl's Day in September 2010. The Answer Me 1988 star debuted as a actress in the 2012 SBS series Tasty Life. She took on the role of the youngest daughter.
6. Shin Min Ah
Kim Woo Bin's girlfriend began her career as a model in the late 90s. She was the beauty for teen magazine Kiki. Audiences became more acquainted with her fresh face in numerous g.o.d music videos. She finally debuted as an actress in the hit 2001 SBS K-drama Beautiful Days. You may remember her as Min Chul's sister Lee Min Ji. The Oh My Venus star has been adored by viewers since.
7. Kim Hyo Rin
The Unpretty Rapstar contestant had to audition two times before she was even accepted into JYP Entertainment in the 2000s. After she was signed, Hyo Rin was placed in a girl group with Secret's Ji Eun, EXID's Ha Ni, and Bestie's Uji. Unfornately, their debut was cancelled, and she decided to audition for Starship Entertainment. In the summer of 2010, she finally debuted as a K-pop idol in Starship's new girl group SISTAR.
8. Kim Yu Bin
She was originally supposed to debut as a member of Good Entertainment's girl group Five Girls. She and idols G.NA, After School's UEE, Secret’s Hyo Seong, and SPICA's Yang Ji Won were training for their debut before they had to disband in 2007 due to the agency's financial issues. Yu Bin debuted with the Wonder Girls that same year. She replaced HyunA in the group and became the girls' famous rapper. That is probably why she seems like such a veteran on Unpretty Rapstar.
