One of Korea's most popular dish is undoubtedly the "Bibimbap". Bibimbap (비빔밥) is a large bowl of rice filled with various healthy vegetables, meat, spicy sauce and a fried egg on time (sometimes but not always). It's not only tasty, but also delicious! The only drawback? It takes forever to prepare. We bring you a modern twist on traditional bibimbap. It's not only easy and quick to prepare, but packed with the goodness of avocados!

I made a simple salad with beef steak, avocados, salad green mix topped over multi-grain rice. The dressing is made with black sesame seeds which is packed with vitamins and minerals, good for our body. The whole thing can be prepared within while you are cooking the rice in a rice cooker. Actually it takes as little as 15 minutes to prep the salad if you already have rice.

If you are avoiding carbs, you can omit the rice, of course. It will be the steak avocado salad with black sesame seeds dressing.

Ge your favorite steak cut. NY strip-loin, ribeye, or fillet-mignon. I used sirloin fillet for this recipe. Spread a little bit of whole grain mustard all over the steak.

Sprinkle a little amount of coarse sea salt.

Pan fry the steak until your desired doneness.

I like mine to be medium. Rest your steak for 5-10 minutes before you slice.

Meanwhile grind black sesame seeds in a small food processor. Enjoy the fragrance of the sesame seeds.

Mix with the rest of the dressing ingredients and whisk well. Set aside.

Slice the avocado. I love this avocado slicer. It makes the slicing job so easy.

In a shallow bowl or plate, spread some rice, and top with steak, avocado and salad greens.

Drizzle the dressing over.

And serve. You don't have to mix it up like you would do with traditional bibimbap. A simple toss as you take a bite would be sufficient. It is quite light in flavor and so delicious.

Even without the rice, if you are carb-free diet person, the dressing is so good together with steak and avocado.

Hope you enjoy this healthy and delicious recipe.

Steak Avocado Bibimbap Salad

serves 4

  • 1-1/4 lb beef steak such as NY striploin, ribeye, fillet-mignon, or sirloin fillet
  • 2 tablespoon whole grain mustard
  • a few pinch sea salt flakes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • 2 ripen avocado, sliced
  • assorted salad greens
For the dressing:
  • 4 tablespoons black sesame seeds
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon pineapple juice or water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  1. For the dressing; grind the black sesame seeds in a small food processor and pour into a small mixing bowl. Add the rest of the dressing ingredients and whisk well. Set aside.
  2. For the steak; spread the mustard all over onto the steak. Sprinkle with sea salt.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet and sear the steak. If the steak is too thick, you will need to finish off in the oven. Cook until your desired doneness. Medium is preferred. Rest the steak for 5-10 minutes and slice against grain.
  4. In a shallow bowl or plate, spread rice and top with steak, avocado, and salad greens. Drizzle with the dressing and serve.
