Hyun Bin’s highly-anticipated period film The Fatal Encounter is set to be released in over 25 North American theaters on May 23rd, including several locations in New York and California, as well as Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, and more.

The Fatal Encounter is expected to join the ranks of South Korea’s most treasured period films including Masquerade (2012) and The Face Reader (2013). When Hyun Bin’s steamy topless scene was revealed on the official teaser trailer in March, a great deal of buzz was generated amongst moviegoers, causing the it to be shared across major Korean drama streaming platforms including DramaFever. The teaser trailer garnered over 10,000 views within an hour. Watch the full-length official trailer below:

The film represents Hyun Bin’s first starring role since completing his mandatory military service and he is joined by a brilliant cast including Jung Jae Young (Welcome to Dongmakgol), Cho Jung Seok (The Face Reader), and Han Ji Min (Rooftop Prince). Increasing the anticipation for the film is director Lee Jae Kyu, who is best known for his TV dramas Damo (2003), The King 2 Hearts (2012), and The Beethoven Virus (2008) -- all of which famously cultivated an unprecedented K-Drama fanbase around the world.

The Fatal Encounter is a historical drama of palace intrigue, which takes place during the Joseon Dynasty. At the center of the conflict are the politically embroiled King Jeong-jo (nicknamed the King of Misfortune), his dedicated servant Sang-chaek, and the skilled assassins sent to end his life.

The Fatal Encounter opens in U.S. and Canadian theaters on May 23rd. For more information about locations and showtimes visit CJ Entertainment or their official U.S. Facebook page.

I, for one, am really looking forward to this film since I am a fan of both Hyun Bin and historical films & dramas. Will you be headed to theaters on May 23rd to view the movie? Let me know which city you'll be watching from in the comments below!
