[caption id="attachment_18956" align="alignleft" width="267" caption="Yoon Eun Hye as Go Eun Chan in Coffee Prince"][/caption] Gender-bending stories are nothing new. Centuries ago, when the world was a much rougher place, girls would dressed as young men or boys in order to avoid any danger that would be lurking around the bend, in the barn, or while traveling. From the East to the West, the world's women would even often used this tactic to run away from home. Now, while this form of female cross-dressing was strictly for survival, more often than not, nowadays it's all about the style, and when it comes to TV audiences, the laughs. Since before the dawn of moving pictures, pop-culture has used the theme of girls-dressing-as-guys to the max. From Shakespeare's The Twelfth Night, to movies like She's The Man , and pop music ala the referenced title of Beyonce's song for this piece, this theme has provided lots of laughs, insight and “unexpected” plot twists. Korean dramas have also explored this concept, in both modern and medieval settings. However, it's the more contemporary dramas that have become popular with their cross-dressing ways! Stories like Coffee Prince, and You're Beautiful have become runaway hits. If you're looking to get your Kdrama Cross-Dress on like the leading ladies of these dramas, then read on! Yoon Eun Hye from Coffee Prince became really popular when she played the tomboy role of Go Eun Chan. Her close cropped hair, and no fuss style was so chic that both guys and girls can easily pull off her look. Ladies, something as simple as a haircut will instantly give your style a more androgynous feel, however, to go the distance, start with the basics: a pair of “boyfriend jeans”. These are jeans that are slightly baggier than normal relaxed jeans, and are often cut a tad longer as well. Next, pair the jeans with a slightly over-sized tee and a pair of comfortable sneakers. The tee can have a graphic print, or just a plain white tee would be enough. Not too big, though! You don't want to look like you're drowning in your clothes! Lastly, accessorize with minimal jewelry, “manbags” like a messenger or briefcase, and trinkets found in your brother or dad's stash: chunky watches, hats, ties or even a pocket square to add finishing touches to the look. Now, you can either toss a fitted blazer over your outfit to polish it up a bit, and if you're a girly girl, and too much Testosterone Style is a bit out of your comfort zone, kick off your sneaks for a pair of heels, and trade the male jewelry for something a little more feminine. Also, polishing up the hair with some pomade and a headband can easily give the look a more girly flare!
