Jang Geun Suk to launch his own charity foundation
Actor Jang Geun Suk has had a lot of accomplishments under his belt for a 29-year-old, including 15 dramas and 8 films. Much of his success is due to his hard work and an early career start, working as a child model at the age five, then debuting as a child actor in 1997. He is now adding another item to his list of accomplishments: launching his own charity.
“I thought about making a foundation five years ago, and now I think it’s time to put the plan into action because I turn 30 this year,” Jangtold Yonhap News on January 7.
The creation of the foundation will allow him to “systematize and expand” his charity sharing into broad avenues, including supplying blankets to typhoon victims, building schools, and helping financially struggling entertainers.
“I’ve received such positive energy from sharing and it’s my dream to keep on sharing,” he explained in the interview.
Jang has been donating to many charity organizations in the last 10 years. His past philanthropic efforts include donating to the natural disaster victims of Japan’s 2011 Fukushima earthquake and Philippines 2013 Haiyan typhoon.
The efforts of his charity work also spread to his fans. For years, the actor and his fans have regularly volunteered together at a Seoul orphanage. In 2014, his official fan club was awarded the 2014 Korean Charitable Citizens Award by the KBS CEO.
He has donated to his alma mater, Hanyang University, and in October 2015, he gave lectures on philanthropy at the university, as he was named as one of their six “philanthropy professors.”
