Joo Won to star in historical drama adaptation of My Sassy Girl before military enlistment
Before actor Joo Won enlists in the military as a police officer, he will be starring in a historical drama adaptation of the 2001 hit film My Sassy Girl. This will be his first sageuk (period) project. His agency SIM Entertainment has confirmed that the role Joo Won is playing will be different from the original character made famous by Cha Tae Hyun.
SIM Entertainment is co-producing the series along with RaemongRaein, a production group with credits that include Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010) and Peninsula (2012). The 100 percent pre-produced drama is slated to film in July to air simultaneously in Korea, China, and Japan. No word yet on when it is expected to air or who else is in the cast, but there are big shoes to fill for the leading actress as this is the role that put Jeon Ji Hyun on the map.
The notable changes in this upcoming drama will help set it apart from the popular film and the joint Korean and Chinese follow-up titled “My New Sassy Girl” starring Cha Tae Hyun and f(x)’s Victoria, which is set to release soon in China on April 22 and in Korea on May 5.
