Joo Won's My Sassy Girl has chosen 10 finalists to compete for the lead role
There is an exciting development in the search for Joo Won's leading lady in new historical drama My Sassy Girl. The Yong Pal actor recently joined the judging panel and 10 finalists have been chosen to enter the next phase.
As we previously reported, the new historical drama, based on Jeon Ji Hyun's star-making movie of the same title, decided to select just the right sassy girl through an open call. Applicants, aged 20 to 30, could apply regardless of acting experience.
The casting process grabbed attention by using a points system with input from multiple sources: 45% from the evaluation committee, 10% from the actors, and 45% by netizens' input gathered from Naver for Korea (30%), V Live for global votes (10%), and China's Le.com (5%).
About 1,800 aspiring actresses took the challenge, and 89 of them were selected to be interviewed in person on May 29 and 30. Lead actor Joo Won joined other judges in the interview, and was quoted saying the process reminded him of his own auditions. He liked it that the open casting process could give an unknown actress or rookie a breakthrough opportunity.
Now, 10 finalists have been announced. Some notable ones are Vivian, cousin to Girls Generation's Yuri; Shin Ji Soo, member of TAHITI girls group; and Jeong In Seon, who recently appeared in Mirror of the Witch.
The next step will be online voting. I can't imagine the pressures upon the finalists right now.
