Joo Won's upcoming drama My Sassy Girl has chosen a newbie actress as the leading lady!
Joo Won's historical remake of My Sassy Girl has finally picked a leading lady. The final winner was selected after 3 rounds of competition from over 1,800 applicants. Who is the lucky actress to play opposite the handsome Yong Pal actor in the new historical drama?
As previously reported, the casting was opened to all interested applicants, even if they didn't have acting experience, as long as they were aged 20 to 30. Ten finalists were chosen at the end of May, and the final three emerged after input from the judging panel, online voting, and even Joo Won himself.
The three finalists were (from left to right in the photos): Kim Joo Hyun (Modern Farmer), Han Ji Eun (Miss Granny movie), and Jung In Seon (Mirror of the Witch). They are all newbie actresses who have played supporting roles.
Are you ready for the winner? (Drumroll, please.)
Kim Joo Hyun is the winner!
The lucky actress is a rookie who previously acted in a funny support role in Modern Farmer. She'll now get to sass Joo Won's Joseon nobleman in the historical remake of the popular hit movie My Sassy Girl.
According to the announcement, the judges were impressed by Miss Kim's good looks and flawless performance during the competition.
Fans should be excited to learn that the new My Sassy Girl will be directed by Oh Jin Suk, who previously directed Joo Won in Yong Pal, and the scriptwriter is Jang Hyuk Rin, who won Best Screenplay for Yong Pal at the 2015 Korea Drama Awards. Filming will start in July and will be completed before the drama's broadcast in early 2017.
I'm glad the leading lady is finally chosen and the drama can move on to filming, because I can't wait to see Joo Won again in a new role.
