We're learning how to make Wasabi flavored ice cream today! Wasabi is that seriously hot green paste that comes with your sushi and clears your sinuses, and makes you cry if you’ve dipped your sushi roll into too much. Is there anyone who hasn’t been attacked by too much wasabi? Well don’t worry, because this ice cream recipe will not attack you and make you cry. Actually, if you slip up and put too much wasabi in the mixture then, well, maybe you will cry.
Ingredients and Supplies you’ll need for this recipe:
Wasabi paste. If you can’t find it in a store, you can order it from Amazon or if you want to be really crafty go to the supermarket and buy some sushi. You’ll get a few packets of wasabi and a meal; good deal! You’ll also need 2 eggs, cream, and sugar.
Step One -
Boil 1 and 1/3 cups of cream in a sauce pan. While it’s boiling, in a bowl toss in 2 egg yolks and 1/3 cup of sugar and whisk it until the yolks disappear and mixture becomes white or close to white in color.
Step Two -
Lower the heat of your sauce pan and stir your sugar and egg mixture into it until it leaves a thick coating on your spoon. Set it aside and move to step three.
Step Three -
Now how much wasabi you want to add is totally up to you but start by adding ¼ cup of hot water to your mixture in step two and a ¼ cup of wasabi paste. Mix it up and continue to add ¼ cup of water and ¼ cup of wasabi until YOU feel it tastes good.
Step Four –
Place it into the freezer and stir with a fork every 3 or 4 hours until the frozen consistency of the ice cream is to your liking.
Step Five –
Add toppings if you want, snap a photo, and enjoy!
