Last January, Korean girl group KARA had their first concert at the Tokyo Dome and it was a complete success -- the 45,000 tickets were sold out within 5 minutes. KARA’s member Goo Ha Ra was interviewed about her experience in Japan and it turned out that she had to go through a lot of hard work and frustration before her success in Japan.

“Language was the part that got me most worried. ‘Can we really do it?’ Every member studied Japanese hard, but when we got there, we realized we weren’t ready at all. First, I couldn’t understand anything. Even though I studied Japanese before going to Japan, I couldn’t catch the unique nuance.”

“The scripts are usually given on the day of the show, except we got it a day or two before. I wrote down answers in Korean, translated them, and just memorized everything.”

“I cried a lot because I couldn’t say what I wanted to say in Japanese.”

We’re glad it all turned out well. All her hard work and practice paid off!
