Without speaking a word of English, musician Lee Jin Joo packed up her guitar and left Korea 10 years ago with aspirations of making it big in the United States. On March 22nd, she played a show in Seoul with her American band DNCE, led by Joe Jonas, making the triumphant return home she always dreamed of.

Not only is Lee Jin Joo the only Korean in funk pop and dance-rock band DNCE, she's also the only woman in the four-person group, which has Jo Jonas as the lead vocals. Having made their debut in 2015, their debut single "Cake by the Ocean," made its way to #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Since then, the band has been selling out shows, opening for Selena Gomez on her huge Revival Tour, and released their first studio album titled DNCE in November of last year. Only in its second year, the band is obviously going to be around for a little while.

Three days ago, the band played a sold-out show in Seoul, where an ecstatic Lee addressed the crowd. "I went to the U.S. alone 10 years ago. I couldn't even speak English back then. Whenever I felt lonely and things were tough, I imagined a moment. And this is the moment." The 2000 fans in attendance wildly cheered, and the local musician who made it had a little more to say. "There were many times when, feeling frustrated and helpless, I wanted to come home, but picturing myself on stage in Korea helped me to keep going." It's obviously taken a tremendous amount of hard work and resilience for Jin Joo to accomplish what she has in the time she's been in America. Having started playing guitar at 12, then moving to California at 19 to study music at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, she has always known what she wanted in life. And now, she's got it.

So be on the lookout for DNCE. They got a really cool guitarist you should check out.
