Was Lee Sung Kyung being insensitive to her hoobae Cho Hye Jung or is this just another drama? The Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo actresses got themselves in rivalry rumors, which began from their Instagram live videos and challenged their friendship. Bottom line: Their friendship survived.

On May 14, 2017, Lee Sung Kyung apologized to the fans. What was the reason for an apology? Netizens had criticized Lee’s rude comments to Cho, which were audible from Cho’s live video. Some pushed further and wrote Lee should not have turned on her live video when Cho was running hers in the same room.

It was back in March. The Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo director and actors were recording the drama’s DVD audio commentaries.

During this recording session, Cho Hye Jung started her Instagram live video to communicate with her fans.

Soon after, Lee Sung Kyung turned on hers. In the beginning of Lee’s live video, we see Cho, seated three chairs to Lee’s left, talking at her phone.

In Lee’s video, she introduces Nam Joo Hyuk and director Oh Hyun Jong, who were seated to her left and right, respectively. She says hello to fans in Korean and in Japanese. Lee headlocks Nam, who says, “Please stop.” See the full video below.

Let’s take a look at Jo’s video. In the beginning, Jo tells Lee, “Unni, I’m doing a live video.” Lee pops in and says hi to Jo’s followers.

Though not audible from this version of Jo’s live video, sources say people in the room made sour comments to Jo.

One of the mean comments comes from a nameless actor who, while looking at Lee’s phone, said, “Wow, 250,000 people are watching this,” suggesting that Lee had much more views than Cho.

Then a voice says, “You should turn yours off” and “Why are you so down?”

On Sunday, Lee wrote an apology on her fan cafe. Lee says both she and Cho were “dumbfounded by the fans’ interpretation of what had happened in the room (back in March).”

Lee elaborated, “[Jo Hye Jung and I] are like Bok Joo and Nan Hee in that we have many memories together and care for each other very much. Those who watched the drama will know but how could anyone not like someone as lovable as Nan Hee or want to hurt her feelings?”

Lee elaborated, “I never thought that me filming a live video would be seen as me intentionally trying to put Hye Jung down.”

On having said “don’t be so down,” Lee clarified it was directed at Nam Joo Hyuk, not Cho Hye Jung.

“We always bickered on set in a way that was cute and fun. For those who don’t know this, I understand how the situation could have been misunderstood. We truly didn’t know that those teasing remarks would be perceived in this way.”

Lee ended her long letter with these words: “I realize that our usual fun times together could bring misunderstandings when (videos are) edited and interpreted in different ways. I believe all of this is a result of your love, care, and worries. I will learn to be more caring and respectful through this experience. Thank you.”

Lee apologized to Cho, who said in return, “Unnie, I really like you. I was happy to work with you and I want to see you for a long time. I'll be more nice to you so let's long-run together.”

Stay strong, Lee Sung Kyung and Cho Hye Jung! We loved your sistermance in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo.
