On Wednesday, Victoria's Secret held it's annual fashion show at the very exclusive Le Grand Palais in Paris, as international supermodels and musical guests like Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, and The Weekend put on the biggest lingerie spectacle in the world. And this year, for the first time ever, four mainland Chinese models were featured on the catwalk along with the other Angels, helping showcase the Victoria's Secret brand to the ever-growing Chinese market.

Xi Mengyao, He Sui, Ju Xiaowen, and Liu Wen are now one of the biggest names in the Chinese fashion industry, after having taken part in one of the biggest and most-watched fashion shows in the world. This year, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show even included some Chinese elements in their designs. A segment titled, "The Road Ahead," showcased supermodel Elsa Hosk in a dragon costume and Adriana Lima in embroidered thigh-high boots. Some call this cultural appropriation, an accusation Victoria's Secret has faced before. In 2012, a model was dressed in a Native-American inspired design, causing quite the controversy. And now, four years later, it's Chinese dragons and traditional costumes.

Many are praising this new development, however. Some Chinese publications are fully on board, citing this year's show as ambitious and simply expressing the latest ethnic trend.  Even the state-run media seems unbothered, claiming that the inclusion of the four mainland models is evidence that China is a rising player in the international world of fashion, and in the world in general. Whatever the case may be, it's obvious that Victoria's Secret is looking to expand in the Chinese market, and it looks like the show on Wednesday was the strategy's coming out party. Already the biggest lingerie retailer in the United States, the world-famous lingerie company has now got its eyes set on China, and it's got just the four girls to help make them even bigger.
