After the thrilling Medical Examiner Dr. Qin reached its gripping and satisfying finale, it's been confirmed that there'll be a Season 2. Will the original team of Dr. Qin (Zhang Ruo Yun), Da Bao (Jiao Jun Yan), and Lin Tao (Li Xian) return? Find out more here.

The 20-episode Medical Examiner Dr. Qin dramatized the unique stories from Chinese forensic expert Dr. Qin Ming's popular book, "11th Finger." Its breakthrough format, stunning visuals, and excellent direction sent the drama into the ranks of the top most popular shows in China. The drama's popularity has a direct positive impact on Sohu, the company behind the production.

Sohu's CEO, Dr. Charles Zhang, recently confirmed that the drama will release a sequel, on April 24, while discussing the company's first quarter results in 2017. Dr. Zhang said that in-house productions, such as Medical Examiner Dr. Qin and Wu Xin: The Monster Killer, increase premium subscribers and it makes sense to build on the existing brands.

A separate report revealed that Dr. Qin's second season would be primarily based on "Scavenger," the sequel to "11th Finger," in the same book series written by the real-life Dr. Qin.

Back in December 2016, Dr. Qin already reached 1.2 billion views on Sohu TV alone, and all three of the leading actors attended a celebration party held in Beijing.

Zhang Ruo Yun, the actor who played the eccentric Dr. Qin and also sang the theme song, thanked the drama for the opportunity to tackle a new challenge as an actor. He admitted that he was so satisfied with the drama's popularity that he would even check the viewing results 10 times a day.

Li Xian, who played the handsome detective, said that he would sometimes play the guitar when watching the gripping mystery. In the drama, Li Xian's Detective Lin Tao provided comic relief, and Zhang Ruo Yun said it's the same behind the scenes too.

About what to expect in the sequel's plot, Li Xian said that he wanted to finally see his "baby," the girlfriend he was always on the phone with and whose real existence his investigative partners wondered about. Li Xian joked that maybe season one didn't have enough budget to hire an actress for the role.

Fans have already expressed the desire to see the original actors return to resume their roles. There is no specific news yet, but since Sohu's CEO has confirmed that season two will be released in 2017, it would seem that the team that made the drama a success would be the one that the viewers want to see again.
