The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince), one of the most beloved children's books is being made into an all new animated film. The exquisite story, written by French aviator and poet Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, has been translated into over 230 languages and captured the hearts of children and adults everywhere. The newest adaptation will add a new character to the story.

The fanciful tale in The Little Prince has asked each of us who's read the captivating story to open our heart and mind to imagination and to learning about life. Since the popular book's publication in 1943, The Little Prince has already been adapted for television or film more than a dozen times. The newest version will add a little 9-year old girl who moves into a new neighborhood and discovers the story of a pilot who crashes into the desert and meets a boy who is a prince from a distant asteroid.

The new movie is directed by Mark Osborne, who co-directed Kung Fu Panda. It features the voice talents of well-known actors such as James Franco, Rachel McAdams, Jeff Bridges, Marion Cotillard, Bernicio del Toro, and Paul Giamatti. Riley Osborne will give voice to the little prince, and MacKenzie Foy, the little girl. Music will be composed by Hans Zimmer, with Lilly Allen singing the beautiful "Somewhere Only We Know" for the movie.

Here is the official international trailer showing the wonderful style of French animation. (It's only available in French for now.)

A unique feature of the new animated film is that it uses computer animation for the girl's world and stop-motion animation for the world of The Little Prince as she imagines it.

I really can't wait for this film to arrive in October, but if that's how long it will take to make sure it will be a perfect film, then so be it. In the meantime, I'll refresh my memories and imagination by reading the timeless tale again.
